As part of our club's Literacy project Members of Soroptimist International Aberdeen collected bi-lingual books in various languages for parents to read to toddlers and young children when in hospital. These were delivered to the Archie Foundation office at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary Sick Children's Hospital. They were particularly happy to receive bi-lingual books in the Chinese language Mandarin as they are in demand.

Soroptimist International Scotland North regional meeting and AGM Saturday 19th September hosted by Soroptimist International Aberdeen a day of food, friendship and collaboration. Finding ways forward to help women and girls in our communities.

Members from from Soroptimist Perth Scotland, Soroptimist International and Soroptimist International and , clubs provided updates on our varied club projects.

An excellent, knowledgeable, and enlightening talk from Dr Kylie Murray from on the current situation for patients with in the uk. Resulted in a clarion call for action!

It’s nearly Gynae Cancer Awareness Month!

Every September we raise awareness of the five gynae cancers and money for their prevention and earlier detection. Will you join us?

This year we will be talking all about pain and discomfort so that you know your normal when it comes to pain, and when your pain might need checking by a doctor.

We know that it can sometimes be difficult to get your pain taken seriously and to get the tests you need. When speaking to a doctor about your pain, they will want to get a picture of your symptoms, and they will try pick up on any patterns.

Keeping a pain diary can help you take all the information you need to a doctor and help you advocate for yourself. It will help you and your doctor understand more about your pain, spot any patterns, and decide what tests you might need.

Download our pain diary template, keep it up to date and take it with you when you go to speak to your doctor about your symptoms. If you have been having unexplained pain for three weeks or more it’s important to go and get checked by a doctor.

As we head into Gynae Cancer Awareness Month this September, it’s the perfect time to brush up on your knowledge of the signs and symptoms of the five gynae cancers.

If you have any of these symptoms, they’re more likely to be caused by something less serious than cancer, but they’re always worth getting checked, just in case.

Picking up the gynae cancers at the earliest possible stage is really important in opening up more treatment options and it gives you the best possible chance of successful treatment.

If you have spotted any of these symptoms, do visit your GP to get investigated. Our Ask Eve Nurses are also here to speak to for free and can help answer any questions and provide information.

Every September for Gynae Cancer Awareness Month we raise awareness of the five gynae cancers and money for their prevention and earlier detection. But why is this important?

There are 22,050 cases of gynae cancer in the UK each year. That’s 60 women and people with gynae organs that will hear the devastating news they have a gynaecological cancer in the UK today, and 21 will sadly die because of the cancer they were diagnosed with.

The five gynaecological cancers receive just 5% of cancer research funding in the UK.

We hear all too often from women who heard about their type of cancer the day they were diagnosed with it. This isn’t good enough and we are committed to bridging this awareness and research gap.
