Friday saw a fabulous feast to celebrate Aberdeenshire grown vegetables at the last of the current series of our Happy Gut Workshops.
Thank you so much Rose Bramwell from Fieldfare CSA and Mhairi Player from Berwick Wood Produce and for coming along and being part of the event. It was really interesting to hear how you grow and distribute such a wide range of fruits, vegetables and herbs, to feed the North East, using organic principles, huge dedication and skill.
Tim Yeomans, our wholefood chef from The Nourished Plate Ltd, created a super colourful spread of salads to accompany the Vegetable and Chickpea Tagine, which was made on the day by those that attended. As if that wasn’t enough 😃 Tim also provided a most delicious cardamom, carrot and red lentil hummus with plates of his famous, and highly sought after, seeded crackers. Then for dessert he whipped up a rhubarb, apple and thyme crumble. What a menu that truly celebrated local produce… and what can be created from it!
It is always special when we set up the long table to share the meal but this time knowing that we were eating produce, full of nutrition, that was harvested less than 48 hours before, from within 40 miles, made it even more meaningful.
Thank you to everyone that has supported one or more of the Happy Gut events. We look forward to announcing our plans for more fun in the autumn.

Banchory is the latest FoodLink NE Food Hub to open with sister Hubs already running in Newtonhill, Fintray and Airyhall. All our Food Hubs offer local people the chance to connect with local agroecological producers through their food and so help to build a fair and resilient food system.

and is rooted in community.

Friday’s workshop was all about fermented foods…. what they are and what they are not, how you can benefit from them and how easy it is to ferment at home.
We then donned our aprons and had fun cooking a Vegetable and Tofu Ramen before sitting down to share a delicious meal together.
Once again Tim Yeomans, from The Nourished Plate Ltd, had devised an excellent themed menu with turmeric and ginger hummus, seeded sourdough, Tim’s famous chickpea crackers and a couple of different sauerkrauts to accompany the ramen. There were Chocolate Tempeh Pots for dessert and just when you thought you had finished the Date Miso Fudge appeared!
Jono Hope from Slow Sauce rounded off the evening with a really interesting talk about how he makes oat and pea miso, and shoyu, in Banchory using Japanese Koji.
Together with the Kombucha welcome drink, everyone was “super powered” with fermented foods by the end of the evening!
Thank you Jono and to everyone who came along. We had a lot of fun.

Thank you to everyone for coming, including Ali Easson from H**p it up who shared with us some interesting facts about her H**p farm in Angus and the seeds and oil they produce. Thank you, too, to Tim Yeomans, wholefood chef from The Nourished Plate Ltd, for sharing some great recipes, nutrition knowledge and ensuring everyone was well fed by the end of the evening. Big shout out to the Mixing Bowl “support crew” as well who waved their magic wands in the kitchen ensuring the evening ran smoothly.

Hello, you may have notice that my page name as changed to The Nourished Plate from Nourished and Refuelled. I’ve been off line for a while and for the best reasons. Whilst I am no longer delivering tasty nutritious meals I will now be teaching you how to make them 🌱 😁

After a chance meeting with Rachel from the who have a history of putting on great cooking courses in Aberdeen, we have joined courses to bring you cooking courses based around good nutrition.

Fast forward a couple of months and we are ready to launch a set of four community cooking workshops at Milne Hall in Kirkton of Skene, near Westhill. The events will take place across April, May and June.

With myself teaching you how to cook the nutritious recipes, together with a great line up of guest speakers, we will share knowledge and inspiration about how good food supports wellbeing. I will give particular attention to gut health and provide some simple, practical steps you can adopt with ease.

The sessions are designed to be fun and informal yet informative. During the evening you will cook up a delicious meal in small groups and then share it together. You will go home with exciting recipes and new ideas.

No experience or prior knowledge needed ... just some curiosity and an appetite!

Most people think “eating more plants” means restriction. But the truth? It’s about adding in, not taking away. 💚

In this hands‑on session, you’ll discover how simple tweaks can:

You’ll taste, cook, and learn how easy (and delicious!) it can be to build more plant diversity into your routine. No overwhelm. No rules. Just real food, real flavour, and real-life cooking.

If you want more energy, better digestion, and meals that actually inspire you Session 2: A World of Plants of our Happy Gut Workshops on Friday 15th May. We also have a special guest speaker: Ali Easson from H**p It Up.
