Prynhawn da!

We have some very exciting news to share with you…

We have purchased the Wetlands on a 25 year management lease in partnership with Down To Zero, Cynon Taf Community Housing Group and Pen y Cymoedd Wind Farm Community Fund CIC to ensure it is protected for future generations.

This is incredible news for the community and has been pivotal in our success of obtaining £11k of funding from the National Lottery.

Diolch to each and every one of you for your patience and your support.

This is the harm that happens to the beautiful creatures we’re trying to protect in this world when littering happens!

Litter picks are so important, to be able to fight back and create a lovely home for these creatures like they once had before litter was a problem 💖

Let’s look after this world together and join Cwmbach Community Wetlands 🦆 in their weekly litter picks (weather permitting) - every Sunday starting behind The Rock Inn, Aberaman @ 9.30am.

Join our group tagged above and all updates are posted there 😊

We were called to Aberdare after a Canadian cross greylag goose was spotted with a can wedged on the top of its beak, leaving them unable to eat or drink 😔

Our animal rescuer quickly got to work to remove the can and was able to release the goose back onto the river without any injuries.

Thankfully we were able to help in this case, but not all wildlife casualties are so lucky. Join Keep Britain Tidy's Great British Spring Clean and be a lifeline for animals in your community: https://bit.ly/3XvMJ2X

⚠️ A Yellow weather warning is in place for heavy rain and risk of flooding from midnight tonight until 6PM tomorrow. ⚠️

📍 The warnings cover the whole of south Wales, including Rhondda Cynon Taf.

The path through the Wetlands tends to flood during periods of heavy rain, please be wary if you intend on walking there and don’t walk along the path if it is flooded.

🦢 MESSAGE FROM SWAN RESCUE 🦢

Having asked a few times that people don’t feed the swans on the path, we are now reiterating that message following the visit from Swan Rescue yesterday.

The man who came to rescue the cygnet yesterday said that he had never seen anything like our cygnets. The fact that they were after him for food and chasing him is worrying and mirrors our message that they are far too tame.

His message is that they could be removed as nuisance birds if people complain about them. He said the cygnets are bad now and wondered what will they be like when they are fully grown. Yesterday, Neil Wroblewski had to usher them back to the pond from the estate.

This cannot go on - so please if you see anyone feeding the swans on the path, ask them kindly not to. They are not starving, and they are at more risk of being harmed if they wander on the road in the path of cars.

Please be sensible: we appreciate that we are speaking to a minority of the group, but we must insist that you stick to the list of approved foods at the top of the page, and that you only feed them in the pond.

Diolch for your understanding ♥️

TRIGGER WARNING - pictures of injured cygnet

We are aware that we are one cygnet down.

We'd like a massive thank you to Tori David who called Swan Rescue when she found a cygnet that wasn't well. Neil Wroblewski came to help too - and we've just heard that the guy from Swan Rescue noticed a lump in the cygnet's neck - this usually means that there is a hook caught in its oesophagus and will need an operation to remove it. He has promised to keep Neil informed and we'll share any updates as and when we have them. Unfortunately, even if it gets through the operation, it will never be able to be returned as Haru and Grumpy won't recognise it as their own.

This is a kind request to all members of this group - if you see anyone fishing at the Wetlands PLEASE call the police. Hooks and fishing line are being left and now we have lost a cygnet as a result. Fishermen have NOT got permission to fish at the Wetlands and they can be arrested as it is privately owned.

Thanks again to Tori and Neil - you're both absolute stars!

PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION REGARDING FEEDING THE SWANS...

we are not asking you not to feed the swans - we are asking you not to feed them on the path because they have become far too tame. If you have any questions, please email us - [email protected]

Diolch for your support and understanding as always and please feel free to share this so that it reaches as many people as possible 💛
