I had the opportunity today to see two of the components which made up part of our RCS competition entry - the intricate felted backdrop and the beautiful child’s sun hat - both were absolutely amazing 🤩 such talented members! Congratulations again to all who took part 👏🏻

😀👏🏻🥳Many congratulations to the Royal Cornwall Show Cup Team who entered the CFWI competition ‘Afternoon Tea in a Cottage Garden.’ Their entry was stunning 😍 as I‘m sure you’ll agree. We are so proud of them! Placed third, only half a point behind second place, judges commented, ‘A very lovely composition and very good blend of components - the icing on your cakes matched your floral display and disappeared into your lovely textural cottage garden, Well done!’

Oh no, how could we forget?
A trip out to see the National Theatre Live performance of LES LIAISONS DANGEREUSES on Thursday 25th June, with heart throb Aidan Turner ❤️ of Poldark fame and Lesley Manville (Mum, Mrs Harris goes to Paris and lots more). Can’t wait!

Good luck to CFWI and all those involved in the Royal Cornwall Show this week! You’re sure to get lots of visitors to the ever popular WI marquee 🎪
Fingers crossed for our team taking part in the main competition - let us know how you get on! Send photos!

Locally, the next walk is on Wednesday, 3rd June, from St Just-in-Roseland to St Mawes and back (bus option back if you prefer), weather permitting, as ever. This time, lunch and a browse around the Visitor Centre follow the walk…er hum, some not-so-energetic members are coming just for the latter (‘The Lunch Party’) 😀

Craft Group is running on Friday 12th June…members are bringing their own projects to work on this time.

Our monthly meeting on Wednesday 17th June promises to be a good one, with the return of author Christine MacHaines to talk about her latest book, a departure from her detective series.

The month finishes with us running the Cornish Cream Teas Stall at Ladock Church Fete on Saturday 27th June, 2.30 - 4.30 in Ladock Community Hall. See you there!

Our display for Ladock Church Flower Festival (Cornwall Past and Present) is up! Thanks to the members who created it originally and put it all together this morning - they recreated our winning entry for Royal Cornwall Show three years ago.
The Flower Festival starts tomorrow (Saturday) and is on for three days, 10am - 4pm each day, in Ladock Church. Acappella Sound Concert Saturday evening, 7.30pm, tickets on the door 🌺 🌸🪻🌷🌻🌼

*An enjoyable meeting last night, first with Richard, ‘my job is to talk rubbish’ from Cornwall Council, who spoke knowledgeably about waste, recycling and food waste and answered lots of questions. He gave us tips about bulk collections, Re-Use shops, assisted collections etc. Thank you Richard!
*Next came the Annual Meeting. Tracey was elected as president again 👏🏻 and she thanked and presented flowers to two members stepping down from the committee. It was good to reflect on how much we have done in the last year and learn how much there is to look forward to.
*Then…the group photo! Is it possible to get everyone looking in the same direction, forget smiling as well! No! 🤣 Two tries were enough and apologies to those who were cut off at the end.

On Thursday April 30 three members of Ladock WI joined other members of CFWI on a visit to Redruth. We were met by Will, a miner, and Hetty, a bal maiden, who took us on an interesting and informative tour of Redruth, which was once an important city on the road to London and which boasted over fourteen chapels and three churches, some of which survive to this day.

After lunch in the butter market, which was once a cattle market, later a butter market and is now a café area with a range of independent food outlets, we walked to Kresen Kernow.

Kresen Kernow, meaning Cornwall Centre, is home to the world’s largest collection of archive and library material relating to Cornwall. Originally the site of Redruth Brewery, it was restored and opened in 2019, featuring fourteen miles of shelving and 850 years of Cornish history in a new addition to the original building, as well as a library, study centre and café.

Thanks to Chris S for her account of the trip to Redruth. Love the photo of Will and Hetty!
