A Small Amount Can Change Alissia’s Life

Sickle cell disease is a painful and life-threatening condition that affects many children in Kenya. It causes red blood cells to become misshapen, blocking blood flow and leading to severe pain, infection, and, too often, early death.

Recently, we were told about Alissia, the younger sister of Millicent—one of our girls. Just months ago, she was proudly graduating from nursery school. Now, after starting primary school, she is constantly unwell. One image in particular was heartbreaking—her small body weakened after a severe infection her sickle cell disease made far worse.

Her family has no means to pay for treatment.

Right now, her hospital bill stands at 7,800 KES (around £40). Paying this would allow her to receive the care she urgently needs today.

But there is also a longer-term solution.

For less than £10 a month, we can enrol Alissia in medical insurance. This would give her ongoing access to essential treatment, medication, and hospital care—something her family simply cannot afford alone.

We have chosen not to share photographs, in order to protect Alissia’s privacy and dignity.

We cannot help every child. But we can help this one.

Could you help us clear her hospital bill and give her the chance of ongoing care?
