The acronym “CIRCOM” represents a declaration of intent, worded in French: “Cooperative Internationale de Recherche et d’Action en matière de Communication (International Cooperative for Research and Action on the Field of Communication). That long description was abbreviated for practical reasons to six capital letters: CIRCOM.

Are we stuck in our own media elite bubble? 🤔

"The media elite bubble is funny. That's the group that's the most vocally worried about bubbles in society... but the ironic thing is that they don't even understand that they have their own bubble."

In his sharp and thought-provoking presentation at , Yle's Head of Strategy Mika Rahkonen challenged the media industry to look into the mirror.

Mika's reminder is crucial for the future of public service media: we shouldn't just worry about our traditional credibility, but also about our lack of street credibility among those we are currently failing to reach.

Is cybersecurity on your management agenda?🛡️

"The question is not, will someone in this room be attacked? But how well prepared will you be when it happens?"

At , Jan Müller (CEO of RPO, Netherlands) shared a powerful and sobering look into what happens when a regional public broadcaster faces a real-world ransomware attack.

His main message? Cyberattacks are becoming more frequent and professional, and prevention alone is no longer enough. Media organizations must invest heavily in resilience, detection, and speed of recovery.

The 42nd CIRCOM Regional Annual Conference in Tampere has officially come to a close. Friday’s sessions focused heavily on media transformation and security, covering topics from ransomware attacks with Jan Müller to AI integration in newsrooms with experts from ORF and RTÉ, and the regional audiovisual ecosystem with Film Tampere.

Next up, our delegates are heading out to experience the local culture with a visit to the Moomin Museum and a traditional Finnish sauna evening. 🇫🇮

Thank you to our co-host Yle, the City of Tampere, all the speakers, and the participants for a productive week of shared knowledge. Safe travels home! 👋

We are thrilled to announce the winner of the prestigious Grand Prix Award!

Between 1980 and 2001, nearly 2,000 young recruits died during Spain's compulsory military service under circumstances that remain unclear. This powerful documentary brings silence and impunity to light through the heartbreaking accounts of four families seeking answers and institutional accountability.

From the Jury: "A potential state-level scandal turned into a compelling, coherent masterpiece." The jury praised the film’s outstanding cinematography and raw emotional authenticity. Instead of actors, the director boldly used training mannequins to symbolize soldiers who weren't treated like human beings – a risky artistic choice that elevates the storytelling to a profound level.

A masterpiece of investigative and emotional filmmaking. Huge congratulations to CCMA Catalonia! 🥂
