Are you interested in learning more about human rights and how to use the arts to defend them?
If so the Story Co-Op Theatre Company might be for you!
We are putting together a company of 10-12 participants for regular workshops to develop their acting skills and eventually participate in a documentary theatre play.
Participants will work alongside professional actors, directors and playwrights throughout the year. No prior experience is required but an interest in human rights and and drama are a must!
Workshops begin on March 31st in the Gaiety School of Acting so if you’d like to get involved please email [email protected] or drop us a line here!

Check out this fantastic initiative by some of the I-Save Steering Committee!

In response to the ban on female education in Afghanistan the team Mahdia, Razia,Zahra Morty and Saber, has set up the Universal Schooling Bank (USB). This initiative aims to develop, support and provide learning materials directly to female Afghan students in various academic disciplines.
All academic module materials have been developed by professors from University College Dublin (UCD), UCD Smurfit Business Schools, Trinity College Dublin, University in Kabul and South-East Technological University Waterford.
We also set up support for a network of primary and secondary schools in Mazar-i-Sharif. The textbooks, educational resources and digital materials for girls and their teachers are donated by the Kildare Town Educate Together primary school and Kildare Town Community School in Kildare, Ireland.
The English online classes are being provided during weekends for 35 girls.
Our network covers 42 villages across Afghanistan and main cities of Mazar-i-Sharif, Herat and Kabul where over 1500 girls will be supported by the USB initiative.
There are still girls who live in isolated areas with no access to facilities. We fundraise for them by selling bespoke Valentine’s cards. To find out more about their stories check the link in bio.

TBT! I-Save steering committee member Abdulai at the launch of ‘Tight Spaces’, a resource he collaborated on with the youth project and Galway.
The Tight Spaces booklet aims to spread awareness and education on Direct Provision, correct misinformation and encourage young people to come together to fight for change, to fight for what’s right and to fight for our future.

‘As we all are aware of the ceaseless anti-refugee protests going on at East Wall and other parts of the country, there is a great need to spread awareness about the refugee crisis, but also and most importantly correct some of the misinformation out there regarding asylum seekers/refugees. I aims to help project a positive image of asylum seekers/refugees, and for Irish people to understand that Asylum Seekers and Refugees are human beings as well and they have skills, qualifications and potential to contribute to the development of this country’.

We are currently facing a urgent and global migrant crisis. This is a very serious issue that we are also facing as a nation.

It’s very sad to see thousands and millions of people seeking refuge in new lands every day with a lot uncertainty and fear in their eyes just looking for somewhere safe and secured . People are leaving their homes and lands just in the pursuit to find new place they can call « Home «

In the recent days , there have been a lot of debates and protests in Dublin and across the country on where new migrants comers should be housed. I can understand the concerns those residents may have due to the lack of information provided to them. This quite understandable
However, I also believe that as a nation we need to remember that we were once migrants in other countries and those communities had to accept us and learn to leave with us.
As a result, those communities have been diverse and multi cultural.

Each human being has the right to seek refuge in any country regardless of their background , race , colour , tribe , religious beliefs, sexual orientation, other reasons etc . No one should be judged based on their migrations status . However , this is not always the case for some migrants that face racism and discrimination as they try to integrate in the new system.

I know there is lot of works that government and the local communities need to do together to make everyone welcome on this island .

I personally believe that the government itself has had a discriminatory approach on migration crisis since the war in Ukraine . I have nothing against Ukrainians, but it can certainly say that other non -Ukrainian migrants were not considered as important as Ukrainians as all the focus and attention goes to Ukrainian migrants .

This is caused a lot frictions, conflicts and problems among migrants themselves. This should have not happened if the government had given each migrant the same equal rights on arrival regardless of the circumstances. I’m quite unsure what to call it but it’s pure racism regardless of the various reasons given by the European leaders.
The human rights of migrants have been violated and are still being violated under our watch and there is not much being done about it .

I think we can certainly do better by treating and welcoming everyone equally in our societies.

This will create a spirit of acceptance, welcoming in the communities and making the migrants feel safe and secured in the new communities .
