The IALA World-Wide Academy successfully concluded the S-200 Data Production Training last Friday, 29 May, in Santo Domingo, following two weeks of virtual sessions and one full week of face-to-face technical training hosted under the auspices of the Dirección del Servicio Hidrográfico y Oceanográfico de la República Dominicana.
This milestone marked the first IALA S-200 technical training delivered in the Americas, bringing together professionals from Hydrographic Offices, Maritime Authorities, Navies, ports, and industry across the wider Caribbean and Latin American region.
The programme combined operational and technical perspectives on the evolving S-100/S-200 framework, including maritime service implementation, data production concepts, interoperability, use cases and implementation experiences from the Republic of Korea, Finland, the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom, as well as practical exercises supporting the transition from data production towards digital maritime service delivery.
Particular attention was also given to Maritime Connectivity Platform (MCP) concepts, service discovery, registry and authentication mechanisms through Maritime Resource Names (MRNs), highlighting the growing importance of secure and harmonized digital maritime infrastructures within the e-Navigation environment.
Beyond the technical content, the training reinforced the importance of regional cooperation, knowledge sharing and capacity building as maritime stakeholders continue preparing for digitalized safety of navigation services.
IALA WWA sincerely thanks the Dominican Republic authorities, instructors, technical experts and all participants for their active engagement and contribution throughout the programme including International Hydrographic Organization (IHO), IALA, Hydrographic Office, GLA Research & Development, KRISO(Korea Research Institute of Ships & Ocean Engineering), Canadian Coast Guard/Garde côtière canadienne, United States Coast Guard, Väylävirasto / Trafikledsverket / Finnish Transport Infrastructure Agency
