TAPS! PNC JOE ZANG.

As reported by PNC David Ginsburg:

It is with profound sadness that I must report the passing of Past National Commander Joe Zang. Joe was a cornerstone of the 110th Field Artillery, the Maryland National Guard, the 29th Division Association, and the Past Honorary Colonel of the 110th Field Artillery.

Joe passed last Friday after a long battle with Parkinson's. He was always at Reunions, Conventions and Post 110 meetings. He was married to Shirley for 70 years and served from 1952 to 1991, breveted as a Brigadier General.

There will be a funeral at Garrison Forest Veterans Cemetery in Garrison, MD followed by a gathering at the Pikesville NCO Club.

More information to follow.

Yesterday, our oldest and most beloved member of the association, Steven Melnikoff, turned 106 years old! Send him a big Happy Birthday! Steven served in the Normandy Campaign from Omaha and beyond during World War II with the 175th Infantry Regiment, and we’re very thankful for his service! In the last several decades, Steve has been an active member of the association, advocating for what we do. We’re thankful for you, Steve!

Today, 8 October 2025, history was made in the village of Consenvoye, France. Today served as the 107th anniversary of the 29th Division’s entry into the Meuse-Argonne Campaign- the date was also selected to dedicate the first-ever memorial to the 29th Division, AEF.

Among the participants in the dedication ceremony were Jim Kilbourne, 29th Division Association Natl. Commander; BG Dale Murray, Asst. Division Commander, 29th Infantry Division; MG (ret) Blake Ortner, former Commanding General, 29th Infantry Division; the Mayor of Consenvoye, France, and other local and regional French Dignitaries. Members of Post 116, 29th Division Association were also in attendance.

This day was the culmination of a process that began in 1931 with a dialogue between the Association and local government officials in France; for reasons unknown the conversations faded away and were lost to time, only to be rediscovered in 2021.

We are extremely grateful for the hospitality and friendship of our French hosts and proud of the achievement made today. A dream has been realized for all veterans of the Blue and Gray, especially those of the Great War and our fallen heroes still in France, pride of our nation.

We had an amazing night last night at our annual reunion banquet! We want to say a special thank you to BG Dale Murray, Assistant 29th Division Commander, for being our keynote speaker for the event. We’re continuing to build relationships with the Division to best serve the soldiers and their families! We also had the honor of hosting Steven Melnikof, our oldest member of the association at 105 years old (soon to be 106)! Thanks to the great work of NFO Richard Carr and his wife Denise, we had tons of door prizes to give out!

We concluded our event with a memorial service honoring 29ers we lost over this last year. It was a beautiful service, and thank you to Chaplin Jenkins for conducing such a lovely service!

We hope to see you next year at Valley Forge, Pennsylvania from September 17th-20th, 2026 for the 107th Annual 29th Division Association Reunion and Convention! Thank you all for such a great reunion to this year!!

More photos from last nights event are to follow!
