💻 IAU on-site at the 7th Asia-Europe Foundation - ASEF Higher Education Innovation Laboratory (ASEFInnoLab7) Conference

Next week, on 27 August, IAU Manager for Digital Transformation, Trine Jensen, will hold a keynote speech at the 7th ASEF Higher Education Innovation Laboratory (ASEFInnoLab7) Conference in Nottingham, United Kingdom.

The ASEFInnoLab7 Project explores how universities can harness AI to advance societal goals, with its White Paper Lab developing strategic recommendations for ethical, socially responsible AI in higher education. The conference, co-organized by ASEF and the University of Nottingham, convenes 70 higher education leaders, researchers, and experts from Asia and Europe to exchange ideas, refine white papers, and strengthen international collaboration.

Trine's Keynote will explore the topic “Digital Transformation of Higher Education for the Global Common Good” and discuss findings from the 2nd IAU Digital Transformation survey on how universities can approach digital transformation and what gaps remain in its implementation.

The IAU is currently finalising the second Global Survey on the State of Digital Transformation of Higher Education, have you read the first edition?

The first Global Survey on the State of Digital Transformation of Higher Education report, published in 2020, was the first worldwide assessment of how higher education institutions were adopting and managing digital transformation. Covering institutions across diverse regions, it provided a global baseline of institutional digital maturity, identified regional disparities and common challenges, and emphasized that successful digital transformation requires not only technological investment but also strategic leadership, organizational change, and a commitment to equity and inclusion.

In the current digital transformation landscape, where technology, especially AI, is rapidly developing, it is important to survey how universities are adapting and managing across the globe. Stay tuned for the upcoming second IAU Global Survey on the State of Digital Transformation of Higher Education report to learn more about this.

🌏The Future of Higher Education

The IAU on The Future of Higher Education offers a dynamic platform for the higher education community to share insights and visions on current issues that affect higher education or offer new opportunities. In these sessions, higher education experts connect with participants to examine trending issues and the solutions our sector can provide to build more equitable, sustainable and democratic societies.

Since its launch in May 2020, the IAU has hosted and co-hosted more than 70 webinars on various themes, including leadership, internationalization, digital transformation, and sustainable development.

Since 2018, the IAU Global Cluster on Higher Education and Sustainable Development (HESD) has been at the forefront of empowering universities to build more sustainable societies. As a network of IAU Member institutions from around the world, the Cluster fosters collaboration to advance the Sustainable Development Goals ( ) through innovative initiatives.

How do Cluster Members work together?
Each of the 17 is assigned an institutional team leader, joined by a group of satellite universities. Peer-to-peer learning amongst the HESD Cluster sparks new ideas and creativity among the Members of the Cluster and encourages other universities to enhance their performance towards achieving a more sustainable future. The Cluster helps generate joint and collaborative projects and other initiatives.

The IAU Events Manager Trine Jensen is currently visiting Murdoch University in Perth, Australia, in preparation for the IAU 17th General Conference taking place this November.

This year’s conference will explore a timely and important theme: The Role of Universities in the Era of Artificial Intelligence. HEP is an international peer-reviewed journal for advancing scholarly understanding of the policy process applied to higher education through the publication of original analyses, both theoretical and practice-based, the focus of which may range from case studies of developments in individual institutions to policy making at systems and at national level. The editorial board encompasses international experts in higher education.
