GLOBAL LGBTIQ NEWS IN FRENCH 🌎🌈🏳️‍⚧️

We're happy to share the work of one of our beloved alumni!

In December 2025, AFSF alumna Venus Aves launched QueerInfo - a free, monthly French-language newsletter that delivers LGBTIQ-related news, commentaries, resources, and opportunities from around the world.

It's a passion project that allows our Masters graduate in Human Rights at Sciences Po to hit two birds with one stone: improve her French language skills and advance her advocacy for equality.

Venus is currently based in Paris. Should you wish to reach her, the Association of Filipino Students in France welcomes messages and queries concerning collaboration and advocacy awareness.

We are proud of your work, Venus! ❤️

We're starting 2026 by looking back to a journey of communal growth!

The Association of Filipino Students in France is pleased to present its official summary of events from 2023 to 2025.

This report summarizes the events the association has organized, the activities the members have attended, and initiatives from members that aim to create a sense of home away from home. Evidently in these events and gatherings, students and alumni have enthusiastically shared their student life experience and exchanged ideas from a wide range of topics, from neuroscience to ethnicities, from gender identities to perfumes, from food to vaccines, from arctic studies to math formulae... the conversations have always been interesting! AFSF has truly been an avenue to continue knowledge sharing.

Key highlights:
- Successful pre-departure orientations for incoming Masters and PhD Filipino students
- Strengthened partnership with the Embassy of France to the Philippines and Micronesia, Campus France Philippines, and France Alumni Philippines Association
- Reestabilishing partnership of the association with the Philippine Embassy in France
- Collaborative initiatives from members who organized events such as quiz bee, guided museum visit, karaoke, picnics and potlucks, and Christmas Party
- Continuous connection among scholars and professionals for information sharing, supporting academic excellence

We are very thankful to everyone who made these years memorable and for ensuring that the sense of Filipino student community remains alive. May this looking back of a journey of communal growth bring us only to many more years to come filled with enriching events, fulfilling meet-ups, and strong partnerships!

A very happy new year to everyone from AFSF!

In AFSF, a picnic is always an outdoor classroom where we share more than just food!

We're closing the summer season by enjoying its last warm days as we gear up for autumn and rentrée! Here's us - with newly-arrived Filipino students and alumni - gathered for a picnic. We're pretty sure that for those who've been to our get-togethers like this, it's always an avenue to talk about different fields of study, academic goals, and inquisitive curiosities further developed in our discussions. How to learn French in duo lingo? Are manifestations in Paris safe? What's the connection between jellyfish and nuclear plants? Can I still consider Tagalog as an ethnic group? These questions - and more - in our AFSF picnics!

Thank you students and alumni for keeping the association alive and for reminding that learning takes place even in the most relaxed settings! Til our next classroom session! Bonne rentrée !

We are gathered to welcome the new academic year... with the new Philippine Ambassador to France! 🇫🇷🇵🇭

Last September 9, the Philippine Embassy in France hosted the Soirée de rentrée, organized in collaboration with the Association of Filipino Students in France and France Alumni Philippines Association.

The event provided a platform to students to introduce themselves, their studies, and interests in the French culture, as they help continue build the Filipino student network in France. The meet and greet also highlighted student life, its issues and exciting adventures, as two AFSF members - Meryll Solidum and Karl Alvarez - shared their stories and key takeways from their student journey. 🎒💻📚

The event also served as an introduction of the student-migrant Filipino population in France to the new Ambassador H.E. Eduardo José de Vega through the welcome message of AFSF President Ralph Ferolino. The message highlighted the community spirit among students and their initiatives in continued knowledge sharing through their events such as museum visits, after-party educational discussions, quiz bee, and picnics. This only underscores the continued support of AFSF in the campaign to promote French higher education studies with the Embassy of France to the Philippines and Micronesia and Campus France Philippines. 👏

Ambassador de Vega himself expressed his support and encouragement to the students and alumni, saying that "in France, known for its intellectual tradition, world-class universities, and vibrant socio-cultural life, Filipino students stand at the crossroads of knowledge and opportunity." He continues to motivate the students whose "contributions are vital in strengthening people-to-people ties", with their "everyday interactions becoming the leading links between the Philippines and France." ✨

We are thankful to the opportunity to meet the Embassy officials, share our student life experiences, and help promote Filipino culture and academic excellence overseas!

Photos from a month ago! 🤗

Donned in our national attires, we posed for a photo with Consul Marge Malang of the Philippine Embassy in Paris at the Concert of the Philippine Madrigal Singers last June 20 at the American Cathedral in Paris. The event celebrated the 127th anniversary of the Declaration of Philippine Independence, as we all enjoyed listening to their rendition of well-loved songs for decades - songs about life (Circle of Life), faith (Prayer of Saint Francis), love (Love Me Tender), and of course Filipino songs written by national artists that celebrate our rich heritage - Kalesa (Ambrosio del Rosario and Levi Celerio) and Paraiso (Ryan Cayabyab), among others. Indeed, the central themes in these songs are what truly make and shape the many identities of the Filipino people.

That Friday, members of the Association of Filipino Students in France felt proud for the amazing talent of the decorated choir, as well as for the rich culture that we can share to others, wherever we may be as international students and migrants. 🌏📚

A heartfelt congratulations to the Philippine Madrigal Singers - you all transported us back home, and a big thanks to the Philippine Embassy in France for the invitation. We look forward participating in your future events! 🇵🇭🇫🇷

Studying in France through scholarship programs offered by Campus France brings another fun time and get together with Filipino scholars!

AFSF members and recipients of France Excellence (formerly PhilFrance) and France-DOST Scholarships (formerly PhilFrance-DOST) participated, along with scholars from other countries, in the Campus France field trip in Sicily, Italy. Here in this photo, we'll find

- Kristine (PhD in Biology, Health, and Biotechnology-Neuroscience at Université de Toulouse)

- Breix (PhD in Applied Mathematics at University of Technology of Compiegne)

- Drex (PhD in Computational Neuroscience and Neuroengineering at Université Paris-Saclay)

- Kel (M1 in International Track in Electrical Engineering at Université Paris-Saclay)

- Rein (Master in Development of Drugs and Health Products at Université Paris-Saclay),

- Joshua (Master in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Vision at Université Paris-Saclay)

posing for an amazing student experience of a lifetime.

In Sicily, these Filipino Scholars visited ancient ruins, tried Italian cuisine such as “cannolo classico” and “arancina”, and explored the beauty of Palermo, the city’s capital.

We are very thankful to the support given by the Embassy of France to the Philippines and Micronesia and Campus France in making student life fun, while keeping our Filipino friendship and connections strong! The AFSF has also been instrumental in keeping us in contact with each other, so if you are a Filipino student in France, come join us and we hope to see you soon!

Spring is finally here! We spent a relaxing Friday afternoon together and exchanged stories about our student lives and the fascinating takeaways from our university experiences - from perfumes to AI to the math equations of invisibility!

Thank you to everyone for coming to celebrate spring and its bountiful blue skies and sunny days in the picturesque park in the south of Paris. We're excited for more food, stories, and students to spend time with!

PRESENT 👋

Members of the Association of Filipino Students in France participated in today's forum on artificial intelligence (AI) and education at the UNESCO Headquarters. The forum, highlighting the impact of AI on human agency in teaching methods, is conducted in lieu of celebrating the International Day of Education.

Many thanks to UNESCO Paris for inviting the association to be part of the event! We also recognize our event head and coordinator, Joshua Salazar, 2023 PhilFrance-DOST Scholarship recipient awarded by the Embassy of France to the Philippines and Micronesia and DOST Philippines. He is specializing in AI at the Université Paris-Saclay and advocates for AI as a tool that supports (and does not replace) progressive and comprehensive learning. 💯
