📘 Human Dignity – 2025 Annual Report

We are pleased to share Human Dignity’s 2025 Annual Report, highlighting a year of work to advance economic, social and cultural rights and promote human rights-based approaches (HRBA).

In 2025, we contributed to international initiatives with partners such as UNDP and the EU Agency for Fundamental Rights, supported civil society engagement with UN human rights mechanisms, published research on climate change and women’s right to health in Kenya, and prepared the relaunch of our online ESCR training programme.

Despite limited resources, we remain committed to promoting human dignity and strengthening rights-based approaches in development and public policy.

Au Kenya, dans la région du lac Baringo, la montée des eaux a submergé habitations, terres agricoles et infrastructures. Des communautés entières ont été contraintes de se déplacer, et l’accès aux services essentiels — notamment aux soins maternels et de santé reproductive — est devenu plus difficile.

Ces impacts du changement climatique touchent particulièrement les femmes.

En 2025, Human Dignity, le Centre for Enhancing Democracy and Good Governance et la HEDG Law Clinic de Sciences Po ont soumis un rapport conjoint au Comité des droits économiques, sociaux et culturels des Nations Unies documentant ces enjeux. Certaines des recommandations formulées dans ce rapport ont été reprises dans les observations finales que le Comité vient d’adopter sur le Kenya.

À l’approche de la Journée internationale des droits des femmes, cela rappelle que le changement climatique n’est pas seulement une crise environnementale : il a aussi des conséquences directes sur les droits des femmes.

As opens in Belém, Human Dignity joins the global call for rights-based climate action across Africa and beyond.

The climate crisis is no longer only an environmental emergency — it is a human rights crisis. Across Africa and the Global South, it is already undermining access to water, health, housing, food and livelihoods, eroding the very conditions of a life in dignity.

Human Dignity affirms that climate action and human rights must advance together. The protection and fulfilment of economic, social and cultural rights (ESCR) are essential to any just and lasting response to this crisis.

We call on governments and development partners to:

- Align climate strategies with ESCR obligations.
- Apply human rights-based approaches (HRBA) to all climate policies and budgets.
- Ensure direct access to climate finance for local and community-led initiatives.
- Protect environmental and human rights defenders.
- Foster regional solidarity and knowledge exchange to strengthen the human rights voice in climate governance.

There can be no human dignity without climate justice — and no climate justice without human rights.
