The Society of Saint Vincent de Paul is a lay Catholic organisation of volunteers, committed to offer person-to-person help to all those in need

The International General Council (IGC) is the senior international authority of the Society. Since its foundation in 1833, it has been located in Paris (France). Its officers are all volunteers, supported by a team of paid staff. The General Council is the link between member countries of the International Confederation of the SSVP. Its mission is to support the work of Conferences around the world. It encourages the transfer of skills and know-how, training of officers and supports twinnage arrangements to build links of solidarity and financial help from rich countries to poor countries. It also organises international meetings, gatherings of member countries and regional delegates, and ensures that meetings run properly. Through CIAD (International Commission for Aid and Development), it provides emergency help in situations of humanitarian crisis and funds recovery programmes (after a natural disaster for instance), as well as development work. It is also responsible for monitoring the use of funds allocated to these projects around the world. Council General, as the highest administrative body of the SSVP, is responsible for gathering, analysing and compiling data from each country or zone where the Society works, to produce reports that give an accurate picture of the development of the Society’s activities, and to optimise the direction of its global strategy. Finally, it is the custodian of the International Rule that governs the Society. It is responsible for aggregation of new Conferences that are created each year all over the world.

SSVP Annual Report 2025 Presentation

Today, St Vincent de Paul Society National Council of Australia hosted the historic launch of the International General Council’s 2025 Global Annual Report in Canberra. Behind every page of Global Annual report are people, those who turn to the Society for support, and those who meet them with care, compassion and practical help. In 2025, the St Vincent de Paul Society assisted 30 million people worldwide, with a presence in 155 countries and territories.

🌍🇦🇺 SSVP International Board Meeting in Australia

Today, 10 October, a new meeting of the Board of the International Council General of the Society of Saint Vincent de Paul is taking place in Canberra, Australia.

Throughout the day, international leaders are addressing various matters relating to the management and governance of the Confederation, including the financial report, the work of the Statutes and Governance Commissions, the SSVP Global Foundation, international communications initiatives, and disaster response programmes.

The meeting will also provide an opportunity to make progress on planning upcoming international meetings and discussing other strategic matters for the future of the organisation.

Together, we continue working to strengthen our international presence and our mission of service. 💙

🌍🇦🇺 SSVP International visits Australia

The Board of the International Council of the SSVP, accompanied by the national presidents of the USA and Spain, is currently visiting Canberra, Australia.

Yesterday, the delegation visited the headquarters of the National Council of the SSVP Australia and learned about various social projects run by the organisation, including its clothing sorting and distribution centre, the *Vinnies Shops* charity shops, and the *Blue Door* project, which provides support to people experiencing homelessness.

These visits allow us to gain first-hand insight into the work of our fellow Vincentians in Australia, share experiences, and strengthen the bonds that unite us as a Vincentian family around the world.

A big thank you to SSVP Australia for their warm welcome! 💙
