🌍 The Answer Is... Serbia! 🇷🇸

Did you guess correctly?

The dance featured in our latest Guess the Country challenge was Strandžanje, a traditional folk dance from Serbia. Like many folk dances of the Balkans, it brings people together through music, movement, and shared tradition. Performed at celebrations, festivals, and community gatherings, dances like these help keep cultural knowledge alive from one generation to the next.

Did you notice how the dancers move together as a group? In many Serbian folk traditions, the collective experience is just as important as the individual steps. The dance becomes a way to strengthen community, celebrate identity, and create a sense of belonging.

This connection between people and tradition is at the heart of Intangible Cultural Heritage. Serbia is home to several elements inscribed on UNESCO's Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, including Slava, the celebration of a family's patron saint, and the Kolo, a traditional collective dance practiced across the country.

Intangible Cultural Heritage is not just preserved in museums. It lives through the people who practice, share, and pass on their traditions every day.

What gave Serbia away for you? The costumes, the music, the dance style, or something else?

And if there's a traditional dance from your country or community you'd like us to feature, send us a message. Your dance could be featured in a future edition of Guess the Country!
