World Chefs Without Borders Raised Over €25,000 for Flood Relief in Nepal
A charity lunch in support of families affected by the devastating floods and landslides in Nepal was held at Mjólkursamsalan’s premises at Bitruháls in Reykjavík on Saturday, 12 September. The event was organised by the Nepali Association of Iceland in cooperation with World Chefs Without Borders.
A large number of guests attended the event to show their solidarity, enjoy authentic Nepali cuisine and support this important humanitarian cause. The generous turnout created a warm and welcoming atmosphere, demonstrating the compassion and strong community spirit shared by the people who participated.
The buffet offered guests a wonderful taste of Nepal. The menu included traditional lamb curry, chicken curry, mixed vegetable curry, chicken wings, chicken momo, sel roti, naan bread, basmati rice, Nepali achar and tomato chutney. The dishes were carefully prepared and served by a dedicated team of chefs and volunteers.
Members of the Icelandic Chefs Association also attended and contributed their time, skills and experience to the preparation and successful delivery of the event. Their valuable contribution, together with the work of many volunteers from the Nepali Association of Iceland, played an important part in making the charity lunch such a success. Volunteers worked tirelessly before, during and after the event, helping with food preparation, service, organisation and other essential tasks.
Approximately €25,000 was raised through the charity lunch and related donations. These funds will make a meaningful difference to the relief efforts in Nepal. The money will be used to support individuals and families who have lost their homes, belongings and loved ones in the disaster and who urgently need food, shelter, medical care and other essential supplies.
Natural disasters can destroy communities in a matter of moments, but events such as this remind us that solidarity can cross both borders and cultures. The cooperation between the Nepali community in Iceland, Icelandic chefs, local supporters and World Chefs Without Borders showed how food and professional culinary skills can be used as powerful tools for humanitarian action.
World Chefs Without Borders extends its sincere gratitude to the members of the Icelandic Chefs Association, the Nepali Association of Iceland, all volunteers, Mjólkursamsalan and everyone who attended, donated or otherwise supported the initiative.

This successful initiative clearly demonstrated what can be achieved when communities come together with compassion, generosity and a shared determination to help people in urgent need.
