Avant d'être le musée Rodin, l'Hôtel Biron a connu de nombreuses vies ⏳

Construit au XVIIIᵉ siècle par l’architecte Jean Aubert, il fut tour à tour résidence aristocratique, ambassade, pensionnat, puis ateliers d'artistes. Parmi eux : Jean Cocteau, Henri Matisse, Isadora Duncan… et, dès 1908, Auguste Rodin.

Séduit par le lieu et ses jardins, Rodin y installe son atelier et imagine déjà un musée. En 1916, il fait don de son œuvre, de ses collections et de ses droits à l'État.

Le musée Rodin ouvre finalement ses portes au public à Paris le 4 août 1919. L’hôtel et ses jardins sont classés au titre des monuments historiques sept ans plus t**d.

Did you know?
Before becoming the Musée Rodin, the Hôtel Biron lived many lives. ⏳

Built in the 18th century by architect Jean Aubert, it served in turn as an aristocratic residence, an embassy, a boarding school, and later as artists' studios. Among those who worked there were Jean Cocteau, Henri Matisse, Isadora Duncan—and, from 1908 onwards, Auguste Rodin.

Captivated by the building and its gardens, Rodin established his studio there and began envisioning a museum. In 1916, he donated his works, collections, and intellectual property rights to the French state.

The Musée Rodin finally opened its doors to the public in Paris on 4 August 1919.
Seven years later, the Hôtel Biron and its gardens were officially listed as historic monuments.
