UNESCO…
Now capable of writing reports or solving complex equations, generative artificial intelligence is seen by some as a revolutionary tool that could transform the way we learn, while others fear it could lead to cognitive decline in future generations.

UN- Habitat…
Financing Africa’s housing future took centre stage on day one of the Second Africa Urban Forum in Nairobi — a key platform bringing together governments, partners and stakeholders to advance Africa’s urban agenda from 8–10 April at .

At a high-level session on innovative financing for housing and urban development, Anacláudia Rossbach, Executive Director of UN-Habitat, joined ministers, development banks, mayors and private sector leaders to advance practical solutions to Africa’s housing deficit.

Co-led by Shelter Afrique Development Bank, the African Development Bank, the Development Bank of Southern Africa, the World Bank Group and UN-Habitat, the session focused on:
• Scaling solutions through public-private partnerships;
• Climate and green finance;
• Blended finance models;
• Stronger municipal finance systems.

UN-Habitat also joined a high-level session on Technology, Innovation, Artificial Intelligence and Smart Cities, highlighting the role of digital solutions in improving urban planning, service delivery and access to housing, while ensuring that technology prioritizes people and their needs.

The discussions also connected Africa’s priorities to global processes, including the work of the Open-Ended Intergovernmental Expert Working Group on Adequate Housing for All, where countries are shaping solutions to address the global housing crisis.

The conversation continues tomorrow. UN-Habitat will also host a regional media briefing, linking Africa’s urban priorities to global discussions at World Urban Forum 13 in Baku and discussing how the continent is shaping the future of housing, land and basic services.
