FIABCI and the UN Global Compact Cities Program FIABCI is working with the United Nations Global Compact Cities Programme as part of a strategic collaboration to write a Charter for Sustainable Property Development and to develop a set of associated tools and assessment processes. FIABCI and its collaboration with the Global Compact Cities Program has ensured that FIABCI is in the forefront globally when considering the importance of the following factors - the sustainability of cities, the protection of property rights, the protection of real estate markets and the technology that drives them. International Property Measurement StandardsFIABCI is an active participant in the International Property Measurement Standards Coalition (IPMSC). - a group of over 70 professional and not-for-profit organisations from around the world, working together to develop and implement international standards for measuring property. The International Property Measurement Standards Coalition (IPMSC) is an international group of professional and not-for-profit organisations working together to develop and embed a single property measurement standard. FIABCI has been an active member in the coalition since its launch in 2013 and is represented by Terry Dunkin, President of the FIABCI World Council of Experts. This group of professional and not-for- profit organizations from around the work is working to develop International Property Measurement Standards that will ensure that property assets are measured in a consistent way, creating a more transparent marketplace, greater public trust, stronger investor confidence, and increased market stability. International Ethics CoalitionFIABCI has had its own code of professional conduct for more than half a century. However, the Federation recognizes that, in many parts of the world, standards of ethics among real estate practitioners are still local, national and regional. That represents a serious limitation in today's gobal market and is hampering growth in our industry. In October 2014, at the United Nations in New York, the Federation joined with 17 other leading organizations to create the International Ethics Standards Coalition. Its purpose is to define overriding principles of integrity, transparency and trustworthiness which will gain universal recognition in today's global real estate market. The Coalition - which has already grown to 48 real estate and related professional associations from all parts of the world - is in the process of writing new ethical standards. They will reflect high-level principles applicable to all sectors of the property profession. The objective is to enable the entire real estate industry to speak with one voice by making a declaration of consistent standards. The new standards are not intended to replace existing codes of Coalition members, but to underpin and reinforce those codes. It is anticipated that, following the publication of an initial draft and wide consultation, the International Ethics Standards will be finalized in 2016. The Coalition will then be fully engaged in implementing and enforcing the standards, while updating them from time to time as needed. As a founding member, FIABCI remains fully active in the International Ethics Standards Coalition and is represented there by Past President Tony Grant who serves as its Deputy Chair.
