We are delighted to announce the upcoming exhibition and performance program 'Les jours intimes' in the weekend of 6 - 8 December. A wealth of images and performances can be seen around femininity, vulnerability, doubt, autonomy, subtlety and connection organized by our current resident Petra Noordkamp During her residency at Van Doesburg House Petra has researched the life and work of Nelly van Doesburg and Truus Schröder-Schrader, the partner of Gerrit Rietveld for a film installation. As it will take some time to finish the installation she invited 10 female artists and writers to celebrate the visions, strength, zest for life and perseverance of Nelly and Truus to conclude her residency.

Two exciting announcements about the weekend Journées Européennes du Patrimoine (21/22 September): the Van Doesburg House will be open to the public from 2pm - 6pm. At Aubette in Strasbourg - a design by Theo van Doesburg, Sophie Taeuber-Arp and Hans Jean Arp - ex-resident and cellist Katharina Gross will launch her residency period at Aubette with a concert on Sunday 22 September at 3pm at Place Kléber.

Inspection, completion and cleaning of the Van Doesburg House after months of restoration. In part to replace the solomite (straw boards) in one of the facades. An exciting exercise and just in time for our new resident Petra Noordkamp, supported by Mondriaan Fonds.

With immense sadness and in gratitude for what she has meant to art and to us, we share that Wies van Moorsel has passed away. Through the generosity of Wies and her husband Jean Leering in donating the artist house of Theo and Nelly van Doesburg to the Dutch state and dedicating it as a residency for artists, the Van Doesburghuis became the sanctuary for the arts they stood for. Until her death, Wies was closely involved with the Van Doesburghuis as an advisor to the board. We will miss her intellectual sharpness, alertness and obstinacy, and in her spirit continue to give space to artists to keep the legacy of the Van Doesburgs alive.

Our Story

The Van Doesburg House in Meudon/Paris was the studio-house of the Dutch artist Theo van Doesburg, founder of De Stijl, which he designed in the 1920s for himself and his wife Nelly van Doesburg. The house ranks as representative of Van Doesburg’s ideas of the synthesis of the arts. In keeping up with Theo and Nelly’s views, the studio-home has been in use since the 1980s as an artist in residence accommodation; a refuge for visual artists, designers, filmmakers, composers and writers, see https://vandoesburghuis.com/en/artist-in-residence/.
