🗓️ Dimanche 21 juin 2026 · 18h30 – 23h

🎟️ Entrée gratuite sur réservation

🌊 MARE NOSTRUM · MUSICA NOSTRA

The Mediterranean never shone more brightly than when it listened. At the European Cultural Heritage Summit 2026 in Nicosia, the Centre Européen de Musique took part in the European Heritage Policy Agora 2026 - Mare Nostrum: Championing Environmental Sustainability through Heritage.

Invited to bring the CEM's voice to the table, Jorge Chaminé, President-Founder, offered a singular reading of this sea. The Mediterranean, he reminded us, was never built through walls, but through circulation of peoples, of ideas, of sounds.

Long before political treaties, music was already building invisible bridges across Mare Nostrum. Hence a change of model: from possession to relation.
Not "our sea" as domination, but "our seas" as shared responsibility. Because music is not an ornament of society, it is part of its human infrastructure. And it may be one of the rare languages still able to turn the fear of hybridity into creative coexistence. This is why intangible heritage is not a luxury of peaceful times.

It is a strategic resource for resilience, for climate adaptation, for peace, for human dignity.

🎶A heartfelt thank you to Europa Nostraand the Europa Nostra Heritage Hub in Nicosia for this beautiful Summit, and to all the speakers who made the Agora so rich.

The Agora Music and Diplomacy has opened its doors at Villa Viardot. ✨🎶

Today, we give the floor to the participants. 🎤💬

Artists, thinkers, cultural leaders and institutional voices came together for this first Agora, inspired by the legacy of Pauline Viardot’s 19th-century salon. 🏛️🌿

Through their reactions, one message stands out: music is more than an art form. 🎼

It is a language for dialogue, a bridge between cultures, and a powerful tool to imagine new forms of leadership. 🌍🤝✨

This first rendez-vous, “Music, the beating heart of Europe”, marks the beginning of a shared journey around music, diplomacy and sustainable leadership. 💙🇪🇺

It is also part of the School for Sustainable Leadership and Diplomacy, led by the Trocadéro Forum Institute, opening on September 7th in Nice. 📍☀️

A new space to learn, connect and shape tomorrow’s leadership. 🚀🌱

🎼 Mafra · Where music crosses oceans

From 28 to 31 May, the Palácio Nacional de Mafra - home to the brand-new Museu Nacional da Música - welcomed the international conference Transnational Musical and Theatrical Influences in the 18th-Century Atlantic World.
Part of the Centre Européen de Musique's Via Musica programme, within the European Heritage Hub, it gathered scholars from Europe and the Americas around one idea: music travels - and shapes who we are.In the closing round table, our co-founder and president Jorge Chaminé reminded us that the point is not to rewrite history, but to study its sources without reading the past through today's eyes - and that this transatlantic dialogue is key to understanding how Europe itself was shaped by music.

🌍The finale? A concert that lived up to its name - Devoção e Estravagância - with Divino Sospiro, sopranos Eunice Abranches d'Aguiar and Patrycja Gabrel, conducted by Massimo Mazzeo.

🌿 The CEM at "Mare Nostrum: Championing Environmental Sustainability through Heritage"

Today in Nicosia 🇨🇾 the Centre Européen de Musique takes part in the European Heritage Policy Agora 2026, hosted by within the .

Across Europe, much of the cultural and musical heritage most threatened by climate change lies in the Mediterranean. Through initiatives like Musica Nostra / Mare Nostrum, Via Ziryab, the Music Task Force and Ode2Joy, the CEM is building new bridges between heritage, ecology and social innovation.

Our Founding President Jorge Chaminé brings the CEM's voice to this dialogue, because to speak of the Mediterranean is to speak of Europe, and safeguarding our musical heritage is inseparable from the ecological challenge we share.

A new chapter begins for the Centre Européen de Musique in Latin America. 🌎🎶

With the signing of a strategic agreement with the city of Atibaia, Brazil, the CEM will establish a permanent branch set to become its Latin American hub.

It is a new milestone in a dream carried for many years by Jorge Chaminé: building bridges through music, beyond borders. ✨
In Atibaia, music will become a true living lab for human, territorial and societal innovation.

A place where artists, researchers, universities, institutions, companies, local authorities, social actors and citizens can imagine new responses to today’s challenges. 🤝

Education, health, social cohesion, cultural diplomacy, creative industries, sustainable development: music can become a powerful tool for connection, care, learning and collective transformation. 🌱

Rooted in the long history of musical dialogue between Europe, Brazil and Latin America, this project opens a new space for cooperation, creation and innovation through music. 🎼

Music is not only heritage.

It is an infrastructure for the future. 🚀
