The Shekhawati Project

The Shekhawati Project The Shekhawati Project is a Franco-Indian association created in 2017 dedicated to Conservation & Restoration of Frescoes in the Shekhawati region.

The Shekhawati Project is an international association created by conservation experts based in Paris-France. Its goal is to conserve and restore the architectural and pictorial heritage of the Shekhawati region of Rajasthan. This unique heritage composed of frescoes and mural paintings is threatened by over half a century of neglect and environmental extremes. The towns of Shekhawati are a fragil

e nature-culture environment exposed to great risks, linked to climate changes. In collaboration with Mody University, Laxmangarh, and international institutions (example : Institut National du Patrimoine, Paris), the Shekhawati Project has organized our first workshop from February to April 2017 in Le Prince Haveli (Fatehpur, Rajasthan). This Haveli served as a Franco-Indian cultural center 15 years ago and is now in the process of being converted into a heritage hotel. During our first workshop, participants worked on an ethical protocol to preserve this heritage home, combining the know-how of indigenous craftsmen with scientific technology. Further workshops will take place from November 2017 to March 2018. Our program aims to help young people pursue careers in conservation and promote international exchange. The Shekhawati Project is founded on the belief that the conservation of this heritage is an important part of the rehabilitation of the entire region. The pressing issues of waste management and flooding are directly connected to the conservation of the monuments.
