For a journalist, even getting Armenians to talk about the Armenian Genocide would not go unpunished in Turkey. When that journalist is prosecuted for using the term “Armenian Genocide” by borrowing it from people invited to an interview, it is a clear and repeated signal to the descendants of genocide victims in general that the universal truth about them remains criminalized in that country.
The following article is written in connection with the trial of Tuğçe Yılmaz, an editor of the Turkish news website Bianet, which began on December 3. She is accused of insulting the Turkish nation and state. The accusation stems from an interview the journalist conducted with Armenian youth about a year and a half ago, where issues related to the Armenian Genocide were raised.
