As comes to a close, we’re celebrating Cesar Aponte and the power of finding your voice. ❤️🇺🇸⚽

Growing up speaking both Spanish and English came with challenges, but Cesar never stopped finding ways to communicate, connect and build friendships. Through nearly two decades with Special Olympics, soccer has taken him around the country, and now he’s hoping for the opportunity to represent Special Olympics USA at the 2027 World Games in Santiago, Chile.

“What makes me most proud is how far I have come,” Cesar shared.

From finding his voice to hoping for a spot on the world stage, Cesar’s journey is one worth celebrating. Read his story. 👇

We saw firsthand at Team Trials how our Special Olympics USA coaches were able to rally their teams in a brand-new setting and create one cohesive group with athletes who had never competed together before.

Ida Chiodi is one of 240 nominated delegation members who attended the Special Olympics USA Team Trials last week! Gymnastics is a family passion for the Chiodis, and her brother Solen, a gymnast at the University of Michigan, has supported and encouraged her every step of the way.

"My brother is amazing and funny,” said Ida. “He taught me to be brave and be tough." We asked Ida if her brother would come to Chile to cheer her on if she goes to World Games and she said, “Oh yes!”

Attending Team Trials is a milestone moment for Special Olympics athletes, and for many, arriving in Pittsburgh meant experiencing the Steel City for the very first time. But for Special Olympics Kentucky athlete Chris Revay, Team Trials felt more like a homecoming.

Chris was born in Pittsburgh and lived there until he was about 10 years old, before moving to Kentucky, and some of his favorite childhood memories were tied to Pittsburgh sports. That made his return for Team Trials even more meaningful.

Then came a surprise that took his Pittsburgh homecoming to a whole new level. 👀⚾️ Watch how it all went down!

Day 2 of Team Trials brought a special Pittsburgh homecoming! ⚾️⭐️

Special Olympics athlete Chris Revay was born in Pittsburgh before moving to Kentucky when he was just 10 years old—so getting the chance to return to the Steel City for Team Trials was already a full-circle moment. But little did he know that he would be taking the mound at the Pittsburgh Pirates game!

What a week in Paris for SO USA! After a week of hard-fought matches, the team finished strong, earning a spot in Division 3 and bringing home a silver medal. We couldn’t be prouder of their determination and teamwork on the field.

Beyond the results, the team embodied the spirit of inclusion, building friendships with athletes across the world.

Congratulations to our athletes, Unified partners, coaches and supporters on an incredible achievement!
