ENG // Cachoeira (“waterfall” in Portuguese) is one of Pour le Brésil’s monthly publications, offering in-depth analysis of key developments shaping Brazil today. Drawing on training from Sciences Po and other leading universities, our contributors bring a rigorous Brazilian perspective on society, politics and the economy. As we continue to celebrate “Revista Cachoeira” receiving an ISSN, we invite you to catch up on the 12th edition: “We are Born in the Womb of the Earth to Live in the Lap of Ancestrality: Food Practices of Traditional Communities as a Way to Combat Food Insecurity.”

Based on our researcher Larah Victória dos Santos’s lived experience and observation of food practices in candomblé, “terreiro” located in Cachoeiras de Macacu, in the state of Rio de Janeiro. The piece draws from analysis of food practices and health maintenance within traditional communities of Africa matrices and the reading and analysis of the works of José Flávio Pessoa de Barros (in memoriam) - babalorixá, teacher, anthropologist, and writer. It recovers knowledge and practices that can contribute to nutritional literacy and to the strengthening of food security for the Brazilian population.

Twenty-five years in the making and dominating headlines since its signing in January 2026, the EU-Mercosur agreement has become one of the most debated trade deals of our generation. But beyond the politics, what are the real stakes?

On March 26th, Pour le Brésil brings together leading experts for a structured roundtable at Sciences Po Paris, designed to move past the rhetoric and examine what this historic trade deal actually means for both sides of the Atlantic.

The discussion will unfold across four thematic clusters: the legal architecture and ratification dynamics, including the ongoing CJEU review procedure; the economic and sectoral consequences for both blocs; the environmental commitments and their credibility on the ground; and the broader geopolitical implications for the EU-Mercosur relationship in a rapidly shifting global order.

Stay tuned for our panelist reveal!

As we continue to celebrate “Revista Cachoeira” receiving an ISSN number, we invite you to catch up on our recent issues:

In the 11th edition of Revista Cachoeira, our researchers Paulo Ricardo Almeida da Silva and Isadora Martins Zuffo analyze the vast police operation carried out in October 2025 in the Penha and Alemão favela complexes of Rio de Janeiro. Through its rich theoretical engagement, the article invites the audience to look at the operation not as an isolated event, but as a culmination of decades of state neglect, the militarization of public security, and the continuity of coloniality over bodies and racialized territories.
