ELLIPSE PRIZE AT AKAA

This year, the ellipse prize returns to AKAA – Also Known As Africa, a long-standing partner of the prize since its creation.

As part of the AKAA fair and to celebrate the bicentenary of photography, ellipse art projects brings together five photographers, one from each of the first five editions of the prize, through a selection of ten works.
Five artists, five territories and five distinct perspectives, offering another way to look back at the first five years of the ellipse prize.

ELLIPSE - SITOR SENGHOR

For the 5th anniversary of the ellipse prize, Sitor Senghor co-curates ellipse alongside ellipse art projects.

A long-time collector, independent curator and advisor, Sitor Senghor has contributed to the development and visibility of numerous artists from the African contemporary art scene. In 2025, he was appointed Artistic Director of AKAA for the fair’s 10th anniversary.
For ellipse, he brings together the works of 23 artists from the first five editions of the ellipse prize, creating new dialogues across practices, stories and territories.

ANNIVERSARY EXHIBITION - the ellipse prize turned 5yrs olds

To celebrate its fifth anniversary, ellipse art projects brings together in Paris for the first time the 23 artists supported since its creation.
From Senegal to Ghana, their works come together in “ellipse”, an exhibition curated by Sitor Senghor and ellipse art projects.
Five years of contemporary creation, encounters and shared perspectives, brought together in one exhibition.

NOW OPEN — Candrani Yulis at the 18th Lyon Biennale.

Placing Bets Beyond the Line of Fate is now on view at Les Grandes Locos.
Through a monumental installation composed of hundreds of hijabs and a structure inspired by the Javanese naga, Candrani Yulis explores the shifting meanings of symbols within contemporary Indonesian society, between spirituality, social norms, self-expression and consumer culture.

Opening night at the 18th

Tonight, Placing Bets Beyond the Line of Fate by is unveiled at Les Grandes Locos.

Developed alongside curator Farah Wardani as part of the second edition of the +E Program, the installation brings together hundreds of hijabs on a serpentine structure inspired by the Javanese naga.

Candrani Yulis' installation is almost ready to be seen

After months of research, conversations and production between Yogyakarta and France, Placing Bets Beyond the Line of Fate is ready to meet its audience at the 18th Lyon Biennale.
Developed alongside curator Farah Wardani as part of the second edition of the +E Program, the installation will open to the public in just two days at Les Grandes Locos.

See you from September 19.

A look back at the opening of "Passage" at the Institut français d'Indonésie (IFI) in Yogyakarta.

Presented in partnership with the Institut français d'Indonésie as part of the +E Program, the exhibition offered the first public presentation of Candrani Yulis' ongoing research before the unveiling of her work at the 18th Lyon Biennale of Contemporary Art.

"Passage" marks an important milestone in the artist's mentorship journey while celebrating the dialogue between Indonesia and France through contemporary creation.

Meeting with Farah Wardani

An art historian and curator, Farah Wardani has played an active role in shaping Indonesia's contemporary art scene for more than two decades. Through her research, exhibitions and institutional collaborations, she has consistently championed emerging artistic practices and fostered meaningful dialogue across cultures.

As mentor of the +E Program, she accompanies Candrani Yulis throughout the development of a new installation that will be unveiled at the 18th Lyon Biennale this September.

Meeting with Candrani Yulis

Born in Yogyakarta in 1996, Candrani Yulis is a multidisciplinary artist whose practice combines installation, video and image. Drawing on personal experience, she explores the relationships between memory, identity and social norms, questioning the place of women within contemporary Indonesian society.

Over the past several months, Candrani has been working alongside curator and art historian Farah Wardani as part of the +E Program, developing a new body of work that will be presented at the 18th Lyon Biennale this September.
