Mohamed Radi - winner of the 2026 ellipse prize

We are thrilled to announce the winner of the ellipse prize's sixth edition, Mohamed Radi.

Born in Morocco, Mohamed Radi develops an experimental sculptural practice centred on leather, a material he diverts from its traditional artisanal and utilitarian function to reveal its organic, sensory and mnemonic dimensions.
Through processes of cutting, layering and stratification, the artist creates textured surfaces marked by scars, tensions and traces of time. Leather becomes a living body, carrying memory, transformation and fragility.

(1) Untitled, 2025, 106 x 100 x 80 cm, leather installation: This sculpture draws inspiration from the lightness of wild grasses and their ability to inhabit the most unexpected spaces. The numerous leather elements appear to grow freely, creating a vibrant surface where light and shadow interact. The work reflects the artist’s attention to the subtle yet essential forms of living things.

(2) Untitled, 2025, 213 x 45,5 x 29 cm, leather installation: Standing in space like a stripped-back tree trunk, this sculpture reveals the artist’s ongoing dialogue with forms found in nature. Shaped while wet and left to dry, the leather retains the traces of the process that transformed it. The work emerges as the imprint of an interrupted growth, suspended between strength and vulnerability.

A few days ago, we celebrated the opening of the 2026 ellipse prize finalists’ exhibition in Morocco, alongside artists, professionals and art enthusiasts from diverse backgrounds. This event reminds us that art can foster dialogue, transmission and lasting connections.

Thank you to the artists, partners, teams and visitors who joined us for the opening of the exhibition of the finalists of the ellipse prize 2026 at DaDa Marrakech.

Within this space located in the heart of the Medina, Mohamed Ahnach, Sarah Hasbi, Mohamed Radi, Safae El Kadi and El Hadi Fekrouni give shape to sensitive narratives where materials, gestures and memories intertwine.

The exhibition remains on view until July 16, 2026 at DaDa Marrakech.

Between tradition and innovation, he explores the materiality of leather, elevating it to the status of an artistic medium. It thus becomes both support and surface, through which Mohamed Radi questions the fragility and the memory embedded within his own works.

2026 ellipse prize's finalist - Mohamed Radi

Composed of perforated and lacerated leather from which supple fringes emerge, this wall piece foregrounds a meticulous process of stratification and transformation. By reactivating fragments of artisanal waste (“L’khorouj”), Mohamed Radi constructs an organic surface in constant mutation, where the interplay between repair and alteration allows memory to remain inscribed within the material.

Through this installation, Mohamed Radi gives form to a large expanse of leather resting on the ground like a fragment torn from the earth, from which delicate protrusions emerge. Inspired by vegetation seeping into rock, the work reveals an organic landscape in which the material appears both constrained and alive.
