Opus One achieves IWCA Gold Membership!
The International Wineries for Climate Action (IWCA) initiative is delighted to announce that the iconic Napa Valley winery Opus One has achieved Gold Membership status.
By powering at least 20 per cent of its operations with renewable energy and demonstrating a consistent reduction in emissions per litre of wine, Opus One has joined a select group of global wineries recognised for reaching the highest standards in carbon emission reduction.
'This milestone reflects our unwavering commitment to reducing greenhouse gas emissions and to the stewardship of the land that sustains us,' said Haley Nagy, Sustainability Specialist at Opus One. 'By minimising our carbon footprint, we are creating a legacy of resilience and beauty that will endure for generations. Our partnership with IWCA has provided us with the means to turn our commitment into tangible action as we work towards achieving net-zero emissions by 2050.'
Katie Jackson, President of IWCA, added: 'We are delighted that Opus One has achieved Gold Membership. As one of Napa’s leading wineries, their success reinforces IWCA’s growing presence in the region and demonstrates the urgency of acting now to ensure a sustainable future for the wine sector.'
Since completing its first carbon calculation, Opus One has transitioned 100 acres of estate vineyards to regenerative farming, integrating permanent cover crops, grazing, no-till methods, and precision irrigation. These practices have reduced inputs, strengthened biodiversity, improved soil health, and enhanced grapevine resilience.
Their approach reflects a holistic vision for sustainability, incorporating landscape restoration, resource management, renewable energy and electric vehicle infrastructure.
IWCA congratulates Opus One on this milestone and celebrates their leadership in shaping a more sustainable wine industry.
