Mitford Literary Society To create awareness and interest to the books written by the Mitford family of Northumberland His book, published in 1845, by J.

EDWARD LEDWICH MITFORD FRGS (1811-1912) set the course of history as we know it today. Hatchard & Son, 187 Piccadilly, London, (republished by his great-great grandson Hugh Mitford Raymond, "British Policy in the Middle East & the Creation of Israel" available on Amazon) lays out the foundations and plan for the creation of Israel, leading to the Balfour Declaration in 1917. BERTRAM MITFORD FRGS (

1855-1914), considered to be one of the founders of South African literature, wrote 44 books over a period of 32 years from 1881 to 1913. Whilst Rider Haggard wrote popular romance, much favoured by the British establishment, Bertram ventured into areas to challenge Britain's role in Africa and to reveal the truth behind the scenes, presenting a more rustic, true life account than other writers on South Africa. At the heart of many of his books lie the politics and relations between the Boers, British and African tribes.

First published in 1883 by my great uncle Bertram Mitford. This reprint by Ian Knight is a classic travelogue and an invaluable source of eye-witness material on the 1879 Anglo-Zulu War. "It still delights the reader more than a century later". Bertram Mitford wrote 44 books on the history, culture & politics of South Africa.
