As part of the programme surrounding CISAC's 2026 General Assembly and Centenary celebrations in Paris, we're pleased to join La Scam for a special screening of Lumière, The Adventure Continues, Thierry Frémaux's documentary exploring the origins of filmmaking through newly restored films from the Lumière brothers.

Through more than 120 restored films, the documentary revisits the beginnings of cinema and the creative innovation that transformed storytelling forever.

As we celebrate 100 years of defending creators' rights, it is fitting to reflect on another landmark moment in creative history and honour the artists whose work laid the foundations for generations of creators to come.

What does a fair future for audiovisual creators look like?

“Expanding the Resale Right globally is a matter of justice. Artists everywhere should be able to share in the success of their creations, no matter where they are sold.” — Kazuhiko Fukuoji, CISAC Vice President and Japanese painter

For visual artists, the Resale Right is not abstract policy.

It is about justice. It is about remaining connected to one’s work as its value grows. It is about sharing in success wherever that work circulates.

The voices of artists themselves make the case clearly.

The CISAC Annual Report 2026 is now available.

Released ahead of CISAC’s centenary General Assembly in Paris, the report highlights a year of intensified global advocacy, policy engagement and progress at a defining moment for creators’ rights and artificial intelligence.

As CISAC President Björn Ulvaeus notes in the report, “The rules governing human creativity are being written now."

Throughout 2025–2026, CISAC engaged in AI and copyright policy discussions across international, regional and national markets, including work at World Intellectual Property Organization and UNESCO, responding to the implementation of the EU AI Act, and legislative consultations in countries including the UK, Australia, India, Chile and South Korea.

The report also outlines continued advocacy relating to private copying remuneration, audiovisual creators’ rights and Artist’s Resale Right frameworks, alongside progress on CIS-Net 2 and the continued strengthening of the ISWC system and its services.

In Nigeria, the audiovisual rights society AVR is still young.

Kenneth Gyang, Nigerian film director and screenwriter (Creators@CISAC), highlights the importance of education for creators and policymakers alike. Laws may exist, but implementation requires cooperation between CMOs, governments, and international partners.

Art is not an accessory to human life. It is part of it.

Arturo Márquez, Vice President of CISAC and Mexican composer, reflects on how art and science have accompanied humanity from the beginning. Science helps us understand the world around us. Art helps us understand ourselves. Creativity belongs to everyone, across cultures and across generations.
