🌿✨ EAS Meeting Highlight – Dr. Thomas Croat in Nancy! ✨🌿

We are deeply honored to welcome Dr. Thomas Croat, one of the most renowned figures in botany, to the upcoming EAS Meeting in Nancy!

🗣️ His lecture, titled “Overview of research with Neotropical Araceae,” will offer an exceptional dive into decades of groundbreaking exploration and scientific work.

🌎 Dr. Croat, P.A. Schulz Curator of Botany at Missouri Botanical Garden, has collected over 109 000 plant specimens, described 850 new species, and curated the world’s largest living collection of aroids (6,500 plants!). His journey began in 1967 with an expedition to Panama—and it sparked a lifelong passion for Neotropical Araceae that continues to inspire generations of researchers.

📚 A global reference in systematics, ecology, and floristics of Araceae, his work spans Mesoamerica, Ecuador, Bolivia, Colombia, and more.

🌿 A rare opportunity to hear from a living legend of tropical botany!

🌿✨ EAS Meeting Nancy – Special Lecture Announcement! ✨🌿

We’re thrilled to welcome Patrick Blanc to the upcoming Aroid Meeting in Nancy!

🌍 Known worldwide for his pioneering work on vertical gardens, Patrick will present a thrilling lecture titled:

“The most dreadful Araceae species lives in the African rainforest understory”

📍 Dive into the heart of the Radeau des Cimes expedition, where Patrick discovered this mysterious species suspended in the canopy, high above the forest floor. Hidden in the dense foliage of Garcinia trees, its presence was betrayed only by strange, formidable feeding roots—mistaken at first for Smilax!

💚 Patrick will also share his long-standing connection with the Nancy Botanical Garden, dating back to the 1970s—a special homecoming for a legendary botanist.

Don’t miss this unique insight into the secrets of the African tropical forest and the hidden lives of Araceae!

Are you ready for another lecture topic ? We will soon gather at the EAS Meeting in Nancy for a great lecture by Heiko Hentrich:

“On the edge of civilization – an adventurous field trip to the Panamanian jungle” 🌴🗺️

Ever wondered what it truly means to study aroids in the wild? Heiko will take us deep into the Panamanian rainforest, retracing his thrilling expedition with Mexican botanist Pedro Díaz Jiménez. Together, they spent two weeks off-grid—no electricity, no phone signal, no running water—studying the pollination of Anthurium species at Finca Culebra.

Expect mud, steep climbs, swamps, and river crossings… but also extraordinary plants and a rare glimpse into the life of field botanists working in pristine, untouched ecosystems.

We can’t wait for this immersive journey into this hotspot of tropical biodiversity! 🌍🌿

Get ready for a hot topic at the EAS Meeting in Nancy: “Floral heat and scent in aroid pollination”

We’re excited to welcome Marc Gibernau, PhD Senior Researcher at CNRS, for a deep dive into the world of aroid pollination ecology.

Marc studies how heat and scent produced by aroid flowers attract and manipulate their insect visitors. His research combines evolutionary ecology, botany, entomology, morphology, histology, molecular biology and more — all to unravel the complex dance between plants and their pollinators.

A must-see for anyone fascinated by plant–insect interactions!
