🌡️🏠 Heat Action Day 2026 : Indoor Heat

As we mark Heat Action Day today, let's raise awareness about the dangers of indoor heat and the importance of protecting our health in the places where we spend most of our time.

While record-breaking temperatures outdoors make headlines, people are often most affected by heat inside homes, hospitals, care facilities, schools, workplaces, vehicles, and other indoor spaces where temperatures can sometimes be even higher than outside. ☀️

Extreme indoor heat can worsen existing health conditions, increase the risk of heat-related illnesses, affect mental health, and disrupt sleep. ❤️‍🩹

💧 Simple, low-cost actions can help keep you cool:
✔️ Take a cool shower
✔️ Soak your feet in cool water
✔️ Drink cold water regularly
✔️ Use a fan, misting fan, or evaporative cooler
✔️ Wear lightweight natural-fibre clothing
✔️ Sleep with a damp sheet

🤝 Don't forget to check on older adults, people with chronic illnesses, and those with limited mobility during periods of extreme heat. A simple call or visit can make a real difference.

📥 To support awareness-raising efforts, heatwave awareness posters are available for download on the IFRC Global First Aid Reference Centre platform in English, French, Spanish, and Arabic: https://www.globalfirstaidcentre.org/resource/heatwave-awareness-posters/

Together, let's raise awareness and take action to make indoor spaces safer and more resilient to extreme heat.

🌍Announcing the Theme of World First Aid Day 2026 ⛑️

The IFRC Global First Aid Reference Centre is proud to announce the theme of 2026:

❤️ First Aid in Migration Contexts ❤️

The World First Aid Day will be celebrated on September 12, 2026, with a campaign focused on:

🤝 First Aid as a tool for autonomy and dignity.
👐 Breaking barriers by approaching first aid in an inclusive way.
📚 Tailoring the training content to better address the different contexts.

By mid 2024, an estimated 304 million people were living as international migrants worldwide, yet many people on the move still face barriers to accessing essential and life-saving support.

First aid is more than an emergency response skill it is also a powerful tool for dignity, autonomy, and community support. ❤️

📚Strengthening First Aid Education in Schools ⛑️

Education in schools plays a vital role in saving lives and building stronger, more resilient communities especially in challenging contexts. Integrating first aid into schools helps equip both students and teachers with the knowledge and confidence to respond effectively during emergencies. ❤️

Children are never too young to learn first aid. The earlier these lifesaving skills are introduced, the more naturally they become part of everyday life and community preparedness.

To support National Societies in developing sustainable and integrated school-based first aid programmes, the IFRC Global First Aid Reference Centre, in collaboration with the IFRC MENA Regional Office, has developed a practical guide focused on implementing first aid education in schools across the MENA region. 🌍

Available in both English and Arabic, the guide aims to promote a culture of safety, preparedness, and resilience among young learners.

📱 The Global First Aid Reference Center (GFARC) took an important step forward in advancing digital first aid solutions by supporting the Vanuatu Red Cross Societyin the deployment of the Universal First Aid Application (UFAA) in their country.

The UFAA is an accessible tool that supports continuous first aid learning, helping people maintain their knowledge and strengthen community resilience. Testing the app in real-life conditions, and gathering immediate feedback, allows us to work towards implementing effective digital tools that are grounded in local realities.

The mission also focused on strengthening internal capacities by delivering technical training to the Vanuatu Red Cross SocietyIT team and supporting the development of an initial action plan.

HAPPY WORLD DAY FOR SAFETY AND HEALTH AT WORK!

We can work together to promote occupational safety and health in the face of psychological risks 🧑‍🏭👷🏿‍♂️👩🏻‍🍳👨🏽‍💻

On the occasion of World Day for Safety and Health at Work, we are highlighting mental health in the workplace. Everyone’s mental health can fluctuate, and anyone may be in a state of well-being just as they can feel psychological difficulties, or deal with a mental health condition.

Work can play a protective role by providing structure, social connections, a sense of purpose, identity, and financial security. However, when work environments are poorly designed or managed, they can generate psychosocial risks that could lead to anxiety, psychological distress, depression or burnout.

❤️‍🩹 These risks remain widely underreported, often due to stigma, fear of negative consequences, or uncertainty about reporting and support mechanisms. Mental health conditions are individual experiences, but responses often rely on collective efforts that take into account people’s diversity in terms of age, gender, abilities, and socio-economic situation.

We have collaborated with Red Cross Red Crescent Movement MHPSS Hub on a campaign to promote and in the workplace. Below, you will find an infographic and a poster that you can use to both educate yourself and help inform others around you.

Raising awareness or training in Psychological First Aid is a way to equip oneself with crucial knowledge and develop strong skills in order to better cope with difficult situations or provide support to someone experiencing mental health distress.

📲 You can find many awareness and training modules on our Universal First Aid App, available for free on Android and iOS, to help better respond to these situations.

❤️‍🩹 Taking care of well-being at work is essential. 🧠🫂

🌍1 day to go until World Day for Safety and Health at Work 🦺📣

As we approach World Day for Safety and Health at Work on 28 April, let us remember that protecting our mental balance at work truly matters.

When workloads are high or pressure is constant, relying on colleagues and taking breaks when needed can help. Focusing on key tasks and protecting personal time also contributes to maintaining a healthier balance.

It is also important to know the support mechanisms available within and outside your organization and not hesitate to ask for help. Creating safe, supportive and open work environments is a collective responsibility.

You can also train in Psychological First Aid to develop essential skills to better handle these difficult situations and support someone in distress.

📲 Many awareness and training modules are available on our First Aid Universal App, free to download on Android and iOS, to help people better cope with these situations

🇱🇧 Strengthening First Aid in Lebanon: A Field Visit to Support National Capacity

In early February, a field visit brought partners together around a shared objective: strengthening first aid education across the country with the Lebanese Red Cross. 🤝

This mission was part of an ongoing collaboration to enhance the quality, accessibility, and sustainability of first aid services for host communities, refugees, and internally displaced people. First aid is more than a training course it is a lifeline. ⛑️

Through meetings with headquarters teams, trainers, Trainers of Trainers, and branch representatives, the visit provided valuable insights into daily realities and highlighted the remarkable dedication of volunteers and staff working every day to keep services running. 👩‍⚕️👨‍⚕️

A key moment of the visit was observing a full first aid training session, where participant engagement and hands on practice demonstrated how quality education translates into lifesaving confidence and skills. 💪🩹

The visit also marked an important step toward the 2026 renewal of the International First Aid Attestation, ensuring alignment with the latest guidelines of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies and reinforcing a shared commitment to excellence. 📚✅

This initiative forms part of a broader partnership with the French Red Cross, supported by the Crisis and Support Centre of the French Government, alongside contributions from Movement partners to strengthen emergency medical services and commercial first aid activities. 🌍

By investing in trainer development, educational quality, and organizational capacity, the Lebanese Red Cross continues to reinforce the first link in the chain of survival ensuring that when emergencies happen, someone nearby knows what to do. ❤️👐

🤝⛑️National First Aid Training of Trainers (Level B) with the Fiji Red Cross Society

🌏This week in Lautoka, we are conducting the National First Aid Training of Trainers with experienced First Aid volunteers from ten different towns and villages across Fiji — Ba, Sigatoka, Nadi, Nalawa, Lautoka, Labasa, Savusavu, Bua, Suva, and Levuka — with the aim of training and certifying them as future First Aid Trainers for their communities.

This training aims to expand the pool of qualified First Aid Trainers in order to reach diverse communities across Fiji with First Aid education, while also strengthening disaster preparedness activities. 🩹🌪️🌊

🖋️The training focuses on facilitation skills, different learning styles, and teaching methods. It is delivered by Fiji Red Cross Society First Aid Trainers of Trainers who were trained during the Regional First Aid Level C Training of Trainers organised last year and who will be validated by the IFRC Global First Aid Reference Centre in line with global standards.

👉This training is part of the implementation of the “Three Oceans” project, led by PIROPS Preparedness and Response Platform for the Pacific - French Red Cross and funded by the AFD - Agence Française de Développement
