🌍 From connectivity to scale-up: strengthening Euro-Mediterranean innovation ecosystems

A great opportunity for ANIMA Investment Network to contribute to the UfM Higher Education and Research Week 2026, organised by the UfM (Union for the Mediterranean) in Barcelona, with stakeholders from across the Euro-Mediterranean region.

During the session on Euro-Mediterranean Innovation Centres and Research and Innovation Hubs, Andy Ramorasata, our Director of Partnerships and Development, shared insights from the Euromed Clusters Forward programme and reflected on how to better turn mature research and innovation results into industrial adoption and regional scale-up.

With more than 80 clusters across seven Southern Mediterranean countries involved in Euromed Clusters Forward, ANIMA has seen first-hand that matchmaking is only the starting point. The next challenge is to connect mature R&I solutions with real industrial needs, assess their market readiness, mobilise the right partners and financing, and enable their replication across Mediterranean value chains.

💡 This is where the proposed Pilot thematic R&I Scale Up Hub could play a key role, not by creating another network or platform, but by providing the missing layer between mature R&I results and industrial adoption.

As Andy highlighted:
from connectivity to validation, from validation to adoption, and from adoption to regional replication.

🌍 What happens when a cooperation project comes to an end?

As Euromed Clusters Forward enters its fourth and final year, the real question is not how many meetings took place, but what continues to work afterwards.

From Lebanon to Morocco, two cluster stories show what this can look like in practice:

QOOT Cluster grew from 26 to 150 members, strengthened its innovation and financial models, and built cross-Mediterranean collaboration in agrifood.

The Moroccan Fashion Cluster moved beyond manufacturing, developing new creative services and building industrial partnerships with its European counterparts.

Together, these experiences show that geographical proximity is only the starting point. Building resilient Euro-Mediterranean value chains requires lasting partnerships, stronger capabilities and shared value creation.

On 3 and 4 November 2026, Euromed Clusters Forward will hold its Capitalisation Conference at the Sofitel Marseille Vieux-Port.

As the project enters its final phase, these two days will provide an opportunity to look back on four years of cluster mobilisation and Euro-Mediterranean cooperation, highlight key achievements and lessons learned, and explore how the partnerships and dynamics developed through ECF can continue beyond the project.

The programme will explore:

🔹 Nearshoring dynamics between the Northern and Southern Mediterranean

Following our webinar “From Connectivity to Compute: A Roadmap for AI Infrastructure in Lebanon”, we explored the foundations behind AI readiness — from connectivity and data to digital systems, compute, research, governance and international collaboration.

🚀 De la recherche à l’entrepreneuriat : lancement du programme Research to Business !

Le Délégué général d’ Investment Network, NOUTARY, a participé au bootcamp de lancement du projet , financé par l’ for the Mediterranean (UpM) et l’AGENCIA ESPAÑOLA DE COOPERACION INTERNACIONAL PARA EL DESARROLLO - AECID.

Organisé sur le campus de ! Universitat de Barcelona, ce bootcamp a réuni les 15 entrepreneurs sélectionnés pour intégrer le programme. Tous développent des projets issus de résultats de la recherche en Méditerranée du Sud, avec un objectif : transformer ces innovations en entreprises viables, rentables et capables de changer d’échelle.

Au programme : sessions de formation et rendez-vous individuels entre les entrepreneurs et les experts, dont Emmanuel Noutary. Ces échanges permettront au consortium Berytech, Investment Network et l’ de Barcelona, de construire un parcours d’accompagnement personnalisé, adapté aux besoins de chaque projet et déployé jusqu’en mars prochain.

💡 À cette occasion, EMMANUEL NOUTARY a partagé trois conseils clés avec les futurs entrepreneurs :

→ Se confronter au marché. Ne pas laisser la peur de partager son idée ou son produit empêcher les échanges avec les clients et investisseurs. Écouter les besoins du marché est essentiel pour ajuster son offre.
→ Faire de l’exécution une priorité. La réussite repose avant tout sur la capacité à mettre en œuvre une stratégie, à s’entourer des bonnes compétences au bon moment et à évoluer avec son marché.
→ Adapter son discours à son interlocuteur. Client, investisseur, régulateur, collaborateur ou administration : chacun a des attentes différentes. Savoir se mettre à sa place permet de transmettre le bon message.

Dans les prochains mois, ANIMA mobilisera son réseau de partenaires, d’agences, de réseaux d’entreprises et d’investisseurs afin de favoriser les rencontres et d’accompagner le développement de ces futures entreprises.

🧶 Can textiles become a driver of a new Euro-Mediterranean value chain?

This is the question bringing together textile industry stakeholders, businesses, clusters, institutions and decision-makers from both shores of the Mediterranean in Tunisia today, at the “Building a Resilient Euro-Mediterranean Textile Value Chain” event, organised as part of the European Clusters Forward project.

The day opened with remarks from Mr. Giuseppe Perrone Ambassador of the European Union to Tunisia, and Mr. Slaheddine Zouari, Tunisian Minister of Industry, Mines and Energy, alongside Mario Jorge Machado, President of EURATEX - European Apparel and Textile Confederation, and Haithem Bouagila, President of the Tunisian Federation of Textile and Clothing - FTTH (Fédération Tunisienne du Textile et de l'Habillement FTTH), among others.

A highly relevant setting to reflect on the future of industrial relations between Europe and its Mediterranean neighbours.

During the session dedicated to nearshoring, EMMANUEL NOUTARY, General Delegate of ANIMA Investment Network, shared the first findings of the study conducted by ANIMA and the Economic Research Forum on new sourcing dynamics between Europe, Asia and the Southern Mediterranean.

His message is clear: this is not about replacing Asia with the Mediterranean.

We are moving towards greater sourcing diversification, where European production, Mediterranean nearshoring and Asian sourcing can be combined depending on products, risks and lead times.

In this new configuration, Mediterranean countries bring complementary strengths:

🇲🇦 Morocco, on speed and logistics.
🇹🇳 Tunisia, on specialisation, know-how and flexibility.
🇪🇬 Egypt, on scale and industrial depth.

But geographical proximity alone is not enough.

To turn nearshoring into a genuine competitive advantage, it must also be built on reliability, traceability, sustainability, innovation and cooperation between companies.

👉 The challenge is therefore to move from geographical proximity to organisational proximity.

To move beyond the traditional:
brand → order → subcontractor → delivery

and build relationships increasingly based on:
co-development → forecasting → production → traceability → innovation.

This is precisely the dynamic that this conference aims to foster: building a more integrated, resilient and sustainable Euro-Mediterranean textile value chain.

The programme includes discussions on nearshoring, the conditions needed to develop Euro-Mediterranean value chains, sustainability, financing mechanisms and support schemes, followed by visits to Tunisian companies covering different segments of the value chain.
