Autumn 2021 marked the beginning of the Makwande Art Residency journey. 🍂

Our very first invited artist, Lulama Wolf, brought her vision and spirit to Antibes, France — creating a dialogue between African spirituality and the Mediterranean light.

During her residency, Lulama developed the body of work Ndizalwe nge ngubo emhlophe (“I was born wrapped in a white cloth”) — a reflection on ancestral inheritance and the belief that we are all born gifted.

As Lulama’s career continues to flourish around the world, we are deeply grateful to have shared in the beginnings of her journey. 🌍

From Residency in France to a Solo Show at FNB Art Fair — Nthabiseng Boledi Kekana Shines! 🌍✨

At Undiscovered Canvas, our mission is to create platforms that elevate African artists onto the global stage. Today, we celebrate Nthabiseng Boledi Kekana — the youngest and 3rd recipient of the Makwande Art Residency in France — as she presents her first solo show at the prestigious FNB Art Fair with Wunika Gallery.

This milestone reflects more than individual brilliance; it underscores the impact of residencies and support networks that nurture artists, foster growth, and connect them to international galleries and audiences.

Her exhibition, rooted in the philosophy of Sankofa (“go back and fetch”), demonstrates how revisiting one’s source can create work that is both spiritually rich and globally resonant.
