Hi all, given the timing of our friend Neil Carmody’s funeral meant that many people were away and could not attend it, we had decided that an informal gathering to celebrate Neil’s life should take place on a date after the rentrée.

This date has now been confirmed as Saturday the 26th September, when we will gather in Johnny's Kitchen to watch Neil’s beloved Munster play Glasgow Warriors in the United Rugby Championship. The match begins at 6:30pm French time so feel free to join us at that time or later for some or all of the evening. Following the rugby we hope to entice our host, ‘Yer Man’ Ado Walsh to play a few tunes and we’ll raise a glass in memory of Neil.

Please feel free to share this message with anyone you know who was friendly with Neil and you suspect would like to be present.

We are sorry to inform you of the death of our fellow AFIL member and dear friend Neil Carmody. Originally from Roscrea County Tipperary, Neil was a resident of Lyon for over 20 years and a much loved figure of our small Irish community. One of the keenest supporters of Lugdunum CLG, Neil often volunteered to run the bar at our home tournaments and other events. His wit, charm, booming renditions of ‘The Fields of Athenry’ and his passion for rugby will be missed by all. Our thoughts and prayers are with Neil’s son Liam, Liam’s mum Stéphanie, his extended family circle and many friends.

We will communicate funeral arrangements when they have been confirmed.

C'est avec grande tristesse que AFIL, nous avons appris le décès de notre adhérent et cher ami Neil Carmody. Originaire de Roscrea, County Tipperary, Neil a vécu à Lyon depuis plus de 20 ans et a été un personnage très bien aimé dans notre petite communauté irlandaise dans la ville. Il a été un des supporteurs le plus fidèle de Lugdunum CLG - football gaélique Lyon et n'a jamais hésité à assister avec la direction du bar pour nos tournoi de football gaélique aux autres événements. Son sourire, son humeur, sa passion pour le rugby et sa grande voix en train de chanter ‘The Fields of Anthenry’ vont nous manquer toutes et tous. On pense à son fils Liam, Stéphanie la maman de Liam, ses cousines et cousins, et ses amis en Irlande et en France.

Nous vous informerons des dispositions relatives aux obsèques dès qu'elles seront confirmées.

Some info for this weekend’s Lugdunum CLG Cool Camp for kids and families 🏐☘️

📍 Saturday from 10am–12pm at Stade Pierre Dodille, Lyon 5. (You can arrive from 9.30 onwards and we will kick off at 10)

If anyone would still like to sign up or bring along some friends, don’t hesitate — we still have space available!

🚗 Parking: There is plenty of parking available around the stadium.

🚇 Public transport: Bus C20 / 45 / 90 all stop nearby

🏐 A short rundown of the morning:
• Fun Gaelic football drills and games by age group
• We’ll have a short break midway through
• And finish with some gentle hurling and rounders

☕ 🧁 🍌 We’ll provide coffees, snacks, and drinks.

👕 🧢 As this is part of the GAA Europe Day Go Games, we have been sent over some nice goodies for everyone to bring home.

🧺 Afterwards, we suggest everyone brings along a sandwich or packed lunch and we can head to the nearby park for a little picnic once the Cool Camp finishes at 12. 🇮🇪 🇫🇷
