UFFAP, more precisely our director Andrzej Szydlo, managed the customs formalities for the crossing at the United Kingdom border of two trucks transporting humanitarian aid to Ukraine collected by the group of volunteers of CityHubNottingham based in the hospital of Nottingham City. In 2 or 3 days, the trucks will be at the Korczowa border, on the Polish side, so that the goods can be distributed in Ukraine.
The Hub collects supplies to send to Ukraine, based on regular calls for items that are requested from their contacts in Ukraine.
It also accompanies Ukrainian refugees in Nottingham by providing assistance to move into their own homes.
The hub is run by volunteers; some are Ukrainians who have settled in Nottingham and provide hard work by participating in these solidarity initiatives: helping their fellow Ukrainians is important to them. Thus, new friendships are formed between refugees and citizens of Nottingham, forming a chain of solidarity of paramount importance at such a difficult time.
Why invest in an organization that supports Ukraine? Ann Vickers, City-hub manager, gives us this touching response: "I personally started volunteering on March 4, 2022 after seeing a Facebook post asking for help sorting donations, I couldn't staying at home watching the news and doing nothing. A lot of people ask me why I do it...because I can, because I want to, because I care. A year ago, I had never met a Ukrainian, I didn't know much about Ukraine, a year later, I meet new Ukrainians every week, some passing through, others I consider friends. I will continue to help for as long as needed, whether it's raising aid or helping to raise funds or just someone to talk to."
Together, let's make a difference! And let us ask ourselves: “If we were in the place of these Ukrainian men and women, what would we not have done to save our children?
