We strongly oppose military control ( involvement ) in CHT against indigenous communities.

The Government of Bangladesh has established three new committees to monitor and control the Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT). 👇

Military and intelligence agencies have been given central roles - including reviewing the 1997 CHT Peace Accord.

The Chittagong Hill Tracts in Southeast Bangladesh is home to the Jumma Peoples, who have faced decades of violence, arbitrary arrests, land grabbing, and human rights violations - often with impunity. Yet they have limited influence and this new structure will further sideline their voices.

IWGIA stands with the International Chittagong Hill Tracts Commission in calling on the Government to suspend the three new committees and remove military and intelligence agencies from their coordination and control.

Almost three decades after the Peace Accord was signed, key promises remain unfulfilled.

The answer is not more military control.

What a disgraceful act by the state against Indigenous peoples. A school funded by locals where hundreds of young indigenous children study was ordered to closed it by the state government in Khagrachari, Bangladesh!!!
