We’re like kids at this sea camp.
And we want to rediscover this world full of adventure.
On this journey aboard the sailing ship “Shtandart”
we’re all just happy that both kids and adults
have become one team…
kids again… and at the same time Real Sailors.
On the first night, we arrived at the harbor in the dark.
Just like kids arriving at a summer camp late at night.
They dropped us off by the stone walls,
and we walked onto the ship.
Then came a long safety briefing.
Of course, we didn’t remember half of it…
So many new people to meet!
Around us — a whole new world.
The space of the ship.
This world lives by its own rules and laws…
rules we don’t know yet, but are only starting to understand.
Of course, the captain is the main person here.
He built this ship with his own hands!!
Everything we do — we do only with his permission.
It’s like we automatically stopped being adults who solve everything on their own.
We became… kids again.
The crew members are foreigners,
so we have to speak English with them.
And for some of us, English is just as difficult as some totally made-up language…
We don’t know what will happen in an hour.
Will we dock or not?
Which harbor we’ll arrive at.
What we’ll see today...
If something goes wrong —
like raising the anchor the wrong way — we fix it.
If the ropes get loose — we tie them again.
We don’t even know if we can go to sleep
after our watch ends at 4 a.m…
Because we might get woken up twenty minutes later… or an hour later,
to raise the sails or start making breakfast.
Every step happens only after a command in proper sailing terminology…
sometimes even in English.
It’s constant overcoming. A challenge to yourself.
And at the same time, it’s connection with nature.
With the sea.
And serious skill-building!
So basically, we’re kids in this small world.
Unusual — but very similar to our camps like “Saga” or “Beyond the Horizon.”
And it truly feels like pure happiness…..
