No Man’s Land from Denmark 🇩🇰, Netherlands 🇳🇱, Slovakia 🇸🇰, Belgium 🇧🇪 and USA 🇺🇸

As more events happen across Europe, musicians meet and jam; they build connections and look forward to the next meeting until one day something special happens. No Man’s Land is a great example of that, showing that European Bluegrass is becoming more “European” and also more … feminine! These ladies now form a genuine “supergroup” of top European talent on their individual instruments. We are proud to be the first major European festival to introduce them to the world as a full band.

À mesure que les événements se multiplient à travers l’Europe, les musiciens se rencontrent et improvisent ensemble ; ils tissent des liens et attendent avec impatience la prochaine rencontre, jusqu’à ce qu’un jour, quelque chose de spécial se produise. No Man’s Land en est un excellent exemple, démontrant que le bluegrass européen devient de plus en plus « européen » et aussi de plus en plus… féminin ! Ces femmes forment désormais un véritable « supergroupe » réunissant les meilleurs talents européens sur leurs instruments respectifs. Nous sommes fiers d’être le premier grand festival européen à les présenter au monde entier en tant que groupe à part entière.

Yonder Boys from USA 🇺🇸, Australia 🇦🇺, Chile 🇨🇱 and Germany 🇩🇪

Yonder Boys have followed a path trodden by others at La Roche, with a Street Festival show catching the eye and leading to set on the Lunchtime Stage, where again they were well received. While their music is hard to pin down, we have always enjoyed how they dance in and out and around the Americana, Bluegrass and folk styles, with their standard Bluegrass instrumentation and excellent harmonies. Their music always feels authentic and personal, while being artistically excellent. They deserve their place on the main stage this year!

Yonder Boys des États-Unis 🇺🇸, d’Australie 🇦🇺, de Chili 🇨🇱 et d’Allemagne 🇩🇪

Les Yonder Boys ont suivi un parcours déjà emprunté par d’autres à La Roche : après s’être fait remarquer lors d’un concert au Street Festival, ils ont décroché une place sur la scène du midi, où ils ont une nouvelle fois été très bien accueillis. Bien que leur musique soit difficile à cerner, nous avons toujours apprécié la façon dont ils naviguent entre les styles Americana, bluegrass et folk, avec leur formation bluegrass classique et leurs excellentes harmonies. Leur musique dégage toujours une impression d’authenticité et d’intimité, tout en étant d’une grande qualité artistique. Ils méritent amplement leur place sur la scène principale cette année !

Kristy Cox Band from the USA 🇺🇸

Kristy Cox is back in La Roche with her own band of American artists having released 5 studio albums in the USA that have all received critical acclaim for her songwriting and arrangements, been nominated more than once for IBMA emerging artist and female vocalist awards, and won female vocalist and Bluegrass recording awards at the Australian CMAs. We have followed her through these years as she has toured Europe and her native Australia and become an established international Bluegrass regular on the US circuit. We are delighted to welcome her back to La Roche with her killer band.

Kristy Cox Band des États-Unis 🇺🇸

Kristy Cox est de retour à La Roche avec son propre groupe d'artistes américains. Elle a sorti aux États-Unis cinq albums studio qui ont tous été salués par la critique pour ses compositions et ses arrangements ; elle a été nominée à plusieurs reprises aux prix IBMA dans les catégories « Artiste émergent » et « Meilleure chanteuse », et a remporté les prix de la « Meilleure chanteuse » et de l'« Enregistrement bluegrass » aux CMA australiens. Nous l'avons suivie au fil des années alors qu'elle effectuait des tournées en Europe et dans son Australie natale, et qu'elle s'imposait comme une figure incontournable de la scène bluegrass internationale sur le circuit américain. Nous sommes ravis de l'accueillir à nouveau à La Roche avec son groupe exceptionnel.

In 2004, Christopher Howard-Williams went to see Roland Jobard, then cultural attaché on the Town Council, and asked if La Roche sur Foron would like to host a Bluegrass festival.
Roland looked across his desk and said “Why not? What’s Bluegrass?” - in that order!
And the rest is history!

En 2004, Christopher Howard-Williams est allé voir Roland Jobard, alors attaché culturel à la mairie, et lui a demandé si La Roche sur Foron serait intéressée par l'organisation d'un festival de bluegrass.
Roland l'a regardé par-dessus son bureau et a répondu : « Pourquoi pas ? C'est quoi, le bluegrass ? » - dans cet ordre-là !
Et le reste appartient à l'histoire !

Catch the Goat from France 🇫🇷

When people reminisce about Bluegrass in France, it is not long before thoughts turn to Toulouse Bluegrass Festival, a legendary French event of the early 1980s. Our president remembers seeing a local Toulouse band there called Anouman. Relatively new to Bluegrass music at the time, he was struck by their modern approach to Bluegrass. 40 years later the Portales brothers are still playing together and they have just brought out a new album that includes the warm, mellow sound of the cello. Their music still expertly explores the Dawg universe with hints of folk, jazz and classical music. Watch out for plenty of musicality and talent.

Catch the Goat de France 🇫🇷

Quand on évoque le bluegrass en France, on pense très vite au Festival de Bluegrass de Toulouse, un événement légendaire des années 1980. Notre président se souvient y avoir vu un groupe local toulousain appelé Anouman. Relativement novice en matière de bluegrass à l’époque, il avait été frappé par leur approche moderne de ce genre musical. 40 ans plus t**d, les frères Portales jouent toujours ensemble et viennent de sortir un nouvel album qui met en avant le son chaleureux et velouté du violoncelle. Leur musique explore toujours avec brio l’univers Dawg, avec des touches de folk, de jazz et de musique classique. Attendez-vous à beaucoup de musicalité et de talent.

New Aliquot & David Benda from Czech Republic 🇨🇿

Ondra Kozák is recognised as one of Europe’s foremost Bluegrass artists, performing at Bluegrass in La Roche more than any other musician and winning the Band Contest 4 times in 3 bands on 4 different instruments. His current project, New Aliquot, “only” came 2nd in 2019, on their only appearance here.
The music is modern, innovative, timelessly rootsy and masterfully performed. We are truly excited to welcome them back to Bluegrass in La Roche this year, which they say will be the highlight of their ten year celebrating as a band!

New Aliquot & David Benda de la République Tschèque 🇨🇿

Ondra Kozák est reconnu comme l’un des artistes bluegrass les plus en vue d’Europe : il s’est produit au festival Bluegrass in La Roche plus souvent que n’importe quel autre musicien et a remporté le concours de groupes à quatre reprises, au sein de trois formations différentes et en jouant de quatre instruments distincts. Son projet actuel, New Aliquot, n’a « que » décroché la deuxième place en 2019, lors de sa seule participation à cet événement.
Leur musique est moderne, innovante, intemporellement ancrée dans ses racines et magistralement interprétée. Nous sommes vraiment ravis de les accueillir à nouveau au Bluegrass in La Roche cette année, ce qui, selon eux, sera le point d’orgue de la célébration de leurs dix ans en tant que groupe !

Grace Honeywell & Jeri Foreman from the USA 🇺🇸, Australia 🇦🇺 and Great Britain 🇬🇧

Jeri is Australian. She has been to La Roche before with The Fountaineers and guested in other bands. She is a wonderful musician and this year she is back with her musical partner Grace, from the USA. The duo formed in the UK and have toured Scotland, England and recently Australia, taking their fresh brand of bluegrass, country classics and original songs to provide audiences with a joyful experience of authentic roots music. Twin fiddles – the perfect pairing with your Sunday lunch

Jeri est australienne. Elle s'est déjà produite à La Roche avec The Fountaineers et a participé à d'autres groupes en tant qu'invitée. C'est une musicienne exceptionnelle et elle revient cette année avec sa partenaire musicale Grace, originaire des États-Unis. Le duo s'est formé au Royaume-Uni et a fait des tournées en Écosse, en Angleterre et récemment en Australie, proposant un mélange rafraîchissant de bluegrass, de classiques de la country et de chansons originales pour offrir au public une expérience joyeuse de musique roots authentique. Deux violons – l'accompagnement idéal pour votre déjeuner du dimanche

Gadan from Italy 🇮🇹, Ireland 🇮🇪 and USA 🇺🇸

It would be fair to say Gadan blew us away with their electrifying, contemporary take on Celtic-Americana fusion grass. Well, with 3 outrageous banjo players, mandolin, fiddle and guitar, this band has taken roots, Celtic and folk scenes by storm, touring the US many times, and we just had to bring them to La Roche for our Sunday evening “nearly but not quite Bluegrass” session to blow you away too!

Gadan d’Italie 🇮🇹, d’Irlande 🇮🇪 et des États-Unis 🇺🇸

On peut dire sans exagérer que Gadan nous a époustouflés avec leur interprétation électrisante et contemporaine d’un mélange de bluegrass, de musique celtique et d’Americana. Avec ses trois banjoïstes hors pair, sa mandoline, son violon et sa guitare, ce groupe a pris d’assaut les scènes de musique roots, celtique et folk, effectuant de nombreuses tournées aux États-Unis. Nous ne pouvions donc pas manquer de les faire venir à La Roche pour notre session du dimanche soir « presque du bluegrass, mais pas tout à fait », afin de vous époustoufler vous aussi !
