We are thrilled to introduce our newest ambassador !!!
Siyanda Hewitt is a South African surfer who was born in Durban and grew up surfing at The New Pier.

He started surfing very young. Although he competed on occasions through out his child hood his focus was always more on freesurfing. He became known for power and style in his surfing. He has spent time surfing in San Clemente, USA (Trestles), Indo, Mozambique, Japan, The Maldives and obviously South Africa where he focuses on his home break New Pier, JBay and the KZN South Coast.

Siyanda became serious about competing at the age of 17 (2024).

In 2025, aged 18, he came 9th (quarter finals) in the adult mens SA Champs in Port Alfred, he also came 9th (quarters) in the SA junior Champs in JBay. Based on his performances he was selected for the SA National surfing team for ISA World Junior Champs in Peru. He is now a Springbok (National team) surfer.

Siyanda has grown up around the children of Surfers Not Street Children (Smile Wave partner) and is actively engaged in the organisation. He is proud to be an ambassador for Smile Wave.

Sharing more about our family today by introducing another of our ambassadors for this year - Puamakamae DeSoto 🚀🌺

Puamakamae DeSoto is a 9x National Champion, professional surfer, and cultural ambassador from Mākaha, Hawai‘i. A trailblazer in the sport, she made history by winning both the Shortboard and Longboard NSSA National Championships in the same summer and claimed the 2023 Hawai‘i/Tahiti Nui Junior Championship title. She was also named Buffalo Keaulana Waterwoman of the Year (2018) for her excellence across multiple ocean disciplines. Featured in Amazon Prime’s Surf Girls Hawai‘i, Pua represents the next generation of Native Hawaiian surfers, balancing competition with cultural responsibility. A business student at Pepperdine University, she is also a fluent Hawaiian speaker, published poet and photographer, and a dedicated community leader, having served 1000+ hours with to educate youth on ocean safety and Hawaiian traditions. is a rising force in professional surfing, bridging the past and future of the sport.

We are beyond to have her in our family, and invite you to join us in cheering for Pua as she leads the way to the next generations 🌈💦

Pushing Limits with Smile Wave Fund Ambassador Lourenço Katzenstein 🔥

We are proud to introduce Lourenço Katzenstein as a Smile Wave Fund Ambassador!
Lourenço’s journey into surfing was inevitable—his father was a surfer, and some of his earliest memories are of watching him leave for morning surf sessions, wishing he could go along. That dream became reality when, at just four years old, his mother signed him up for surf lessons.

Years of dedication and passion led Lourenço to one of his proudest achievements: co-founding the Red Herrings team and association. Through this project, he has shared the surf lifestyle with countless others, creating a community that thrives on mutual support, respect, and a love for the ocean.
But his ambitions don’t stop there. After mastering jet ski rescuing and driving, Lourenço is now laser-focused on pushing his big wave performance surfing to the next level. His goal? To stand among the world’s best in the sport.

Lourenço’s journey is driven by three core values:
🌊 Resilience – Surfing, especially in big waves, teaches you that things can and will go wrong. True strength is found in how you push through.
🌿 Respect for Nature – The ocean is a powerful force, and through surfing, Lourenço developed a deep appreciation for its beauty and unpredictability. This respect influences every aspect of his life.
🙏 Gratitude – Surfing has taught him to appreciate every moment, focus on the positives, and foster a supportive, uplifting community.

His ultimate mission? To uplift those around him and help them become the best versions of themselves.

For Lourenço, Smile Wave Fund has been a key part of his journey and has believed in him since day one, pushed him forward, and provided the support needed to build the Red Herrings team and association. Our guidance and encouragement continue to fuel his pursuit of greatness, and we are honored to stand by him as he takes on the next chapter.

We are thrilled to reintroduce Francisco Roque de Pinho as a Smile Wave Fund Ambassador!
Francisco’s journey into surfing started with a single moment—watching a surfer glide effortlessly across a wave in Rio de Janeiro when he was just ten years old. From that day on, the ocean became his obsession. Growing up between France, Switzerland, and Portugal, his love for surfing was fueled by magazines and rare opportunities to hit the water.

It wasn’t until his twenties that Francisco truly committed to surfing, traveling the world, chasing waves in Indonesia, Australia, Hawaii, and beyond. But it was almost by accident that he discovered his true passion—big wave surfing in Nazaré. Now, he’s at the forefront of extreme surfing, charging some of the biggest waves on the planet. Some of his achivements include waves of +15m in Nazaré ⚡

His next mission? Turning Red Herrings Nazaré into one of the world’s most respected big wave teams. His vision goes beyond personal success—he wants to inspire, uplift, and leave a lasting impact for future generations.

He believes in seeking a higher purpose and for him, our responsibility is to contribute positively and leave the world a better place for the next generations.
