Daily Online Mindfulness Sessions
We hold these silent meditation sessions most mornings and evening throughout the year – on Microsoft Teams

The group is open to both stammerers and normally-fluent speakers.

We start at 6am and 8.30pm (UK time) and we sit for 30 minutes.

These sessions are for people who already know how to meditate (i.e., who don’t need guidance) and who would like to meditate together with other people.

During the 30-minute sessions, you are free to practice whatever type of meditation you like. The most important requirement is that you are able to sit still and remain silent for 30 minutes at a time.

Most participants have some experience of one or more of the following: Zen, Vipassana, other Buddhist meditation, and/or Mindfulness training (such as Mindfulness-based Stress Reduction (MBSR)

Most participants’ practices include focussing on breathing, or practices like “metta” (loving kindness meditation).

Participants sit in front of their computer/tablet/smartphone (normally with their cameras turned on, although the camera is optional)

Microphones must be turned off.

Your eyes can be open or closed (if your eyes are open, you will be able to see the others who are meditating with you.

You can also listen to (your own choice of) guided meditations or meditation music – as long as your microphone is switched off so others can’t hear it.

The start and end of the 30-minute session is signalled by a gong.

There is no talking or social interaction in the meeting itself, but after the meditation ends there is the opportunity to chat.

These online meditation sessions are completely free of charge.

Zoom discussion with Leon from Conscious Flow - Saturday 27th July 2024 at 10:00am British Standard Time - Zoom meeting details

Leon is 33 years old and is from Germany. He has been stuttering severely from childhood onwards and had no success with traditional speech therapy programs (fluency shaping, Van Riper etc. as well as psychiatric meds). Leon studied maths and worked as a mathematician for a few years, but couldn't continue at some point because of severe depression and suicidality. At a very low point, he had a spiritual awakening experience that turned his life completely upside down. Leon began to really confront his issues with stuttering, face the underlying fears and fix his relationships. This was 5 years ago and his stuttering improved a lot since then, but it's still there. After healing work with e.g. yoga, meditation and ayahuasca ceremonies, Leon started studying speech therapy and now works as a therapist for stuttering children. Leon finds that stuttering can be used as an awakening force, i.e. if you open to it, it can help you expand your consciousness and live a happier and more mindful life.

Some time ago I wrote this article on the topic of Avoidance. One of my reasons for writing it was my awareness that there is a tendency in the stuttering world for both PWS and therapists to unquestioningly accept the idea that avoiding stuttering is always bad, and non-avoidance of stuttering is always good. The reality is much more nuanced, and in order for one's attempts at non-avoidance to be successful, it is essential to understand the nuances. Here is the article.
