Today we visited the Churchill War Rooms in London, stepping into the heart of Britain’s wartime command centre. This video shows Churchill’s briefing room and the famous Map Room, where crucial decisions were made during the Second World War.

What makes the experience so extraordinary is that everything has remained exactly as it was at the end of the war in 1945.

Le quartier général des forces française libres (FFL) à Londres ce trouvait au 4 Carlton Gardens.
En effet à partir du 24 juillet 1940 le général De Gaulle s’y installe avec les services militaires et civils suivants :

- Une centaine de militaires : un cabinet militaire, un état-major (1er, 2e, 3e et 4e bureaux), l’intendance, le trésor, la santé, etc…

- Une cinquantaine de civils : un cabinet civil, un service financier, un service des affaires extérieures et coloniales, un service technique et de l’armement, un service juridique, un service de presse et d’information et un service des Français à l’étranger.

Named Gruesome and built in 1943, it took part in the Salerno landing in Italy in September 1943, dropping paratroopers from the 82nd Airborne.
In August 1944, after D-Day, it operated out of Normandy. It supplied the 101st Airborne during the Battle of the Bulge.
