Ex-employee used to collect donations through the store for her ngo , then BSR set up an account for donated gear sales to continue to support underserved youth through climbing.

Founded in 2018, MBB recently focused on establishing mountain access for refugee teenagers from Africa who live in youth homes below Mont Blanc. BSR supported several amazing initiatives (see MBB's site for more info) including the first 6 refugee teens to have annual lifts passes (access to hundreds of miles of pistes and trails in the Mont Blanc valley!) when they leave the youth home at 18. Each pass only cost 108 euros - which is a bit cheaper than the IKON pass!

With your support, in November, MBB can reach 25 passes, and share a documentary about the youths and the importance of this access.

Why we chose to accompany Chamonix Welcome Collective, and to help them integrate 35 refugee and unaccompanied minors in the region who are housed in a childrens' center near Chamonix, below Mont Blanc, thanks to the Fondation ALIA.

A few months into joining the effort, I met Victor.

Victor recently gave myself, Tiffany, and Aleksandra permission to document his story for the film.

Today he lives in Servoz, not 15 minutes from Chamonix, and he told us that he left Sierra Leone to escape violence with his older brother at the age of 14, spent over a year traversing around the Med (much of it on foot, in the mountain ranges in eastern europe). He lost his brother on the way, arrived to France quite affected, and in spite of his fluent English and relatively good level of education, was - over many months, up to a year - juggled by the police and different departments, waiting months in a hotel without any services, before arriving at MECS Passy, where they quickly found him the apprenticeship in Servoz. But as he spoke no French, and the center was not able to answer his call went he was experiencing anxiety attacks (as a result of the weight of the loss of his brother, the stress of a workplace that demanded weeks without days off, having no time to properly study) and having no famille d'accueil, he found himself newly isolated. Then he called me - someone who he had never met, only because I had messaged him once as Chamonix Welcome Collective.

As MBB's founder, I have been working directly with to work with unaccomanied migrant minors in the French Alps for over a year now.

With Kate and other awesome volunteers there was a flurry of activity, figuring out how to get these teens integrated in their community and mountains.

Now, one year later, it's uneblievable that we're doing it all again, and diving deeper into the issue: it's not just about mountains and community.

As the immigration issue rises and France's system is overloaded with applicants, every element of their existence is a battle they are not equipped to meet when they age out.

The youth arrive with deep trauma, chronic injuries, and little or no French, and in the few years at the center, educators are expected to raise, teach, find apprenticeships, and then lodging when they age out - a half dozen teens in their care at a time.

The center no longer has a psychologist. Mis a l'abris, youth who used to wait 5 days the paper to receive services, now wait an entire year - AND cannot leave the center without accompanying staff.

The struggle to find regular staff makes it complicated to build a relationship to navigate child protection protocols, and results in rigid and sparse communication with associations trying to help.

It's a slow march towards understanding the system, learning what the 35 teens need, and building trust to be able to provide solutions with an amazing team at Chamonix Welcome Collective.
