Our Story

We are Tiwanee, Quentin and Julius, all members of the community in Kapeska. Tiwanee has been living in Malawi for over 3 years now running a farmhouse and tourist lodge for horseback riding. Quentin has been here for little over a year and was previously running a dive centre on Lake Malawi. Julius on the other hand grew up in Malaza, just a few villages away from the community of Kapeska! He is a professional Head Teacher of a local private school and has been working in education for many years.

Together we have found ourselves with the same idea; to develop the community of Kapeska in the most sustainable way possible. By sharing knowledge, awareness, tools, education and providing a safe space for children, we will enable everyone in the community to develop skills they can use to provide for their families now and in the future.

Last year Cheif Kanyanga of Kapeska gave Malawi Wawi 3 acres of land in the community. On this land we already have a brick building with 2 classrooms, an office and have started the development of a communal kitchen and garden. We've also been given a 2/3 room house in the village to refurbish for future volunteers to stay and be completely submerged in local life!

What have we achieved together so far? Through the sales of our funky chitenge fashion made by members of the community paid a fair living wage we have funded a primary school with breakfast program, kids club, library, community bicycles to get to market or work, communal garden, tailor training program, adult literacy program and sign language program.
