The idea aim of ‘Get me to Cannes’ as the name suggests, is to help sponsor a couple of young Indian film makers who have their short film at the short film corner or are a part of the Short film and Ciné Fondation section, and have come to promote their work. They could also be film makers who are either part of a film school or going to film school. it was an article in the ‘Times of India’ publ
ished in April 2016 that drew our attention about 6 Bengali film makers making it to the short film corner. A few of them mentioned not being able to afford the trip. We thought it was perhaps an opportunity to do something to change that. We posted a message on Facebook and in less than a week had sponsors who are from Shree Venkatesh Film and from Ishka Films who’ve just produced the wonderful film ‘Waiting’. Both agreed to help finance partly or totally, the costs of various film makers who are either at the Short Film Corner or even part of the Official Selection at Short Film & Ciné Fondation section. That’s how the ‘Get me to Cannes’ project and network came into being, quite unexpectedly and a wonderful gift for young film makers who'd never be able to afford the trip. We want to give them the opportunity to come and showcase their film, network with producers, festivals, distributors, TV channels, press/media but also with other film makers and crews from all over the world. We want them to see what prospects they have in terms of getting help from various workshops organised to help them. We can't forget that they will also have the unique opportunity to come and see high quality films, attend Master Class sessions with well-known film makers to learn more about their art and obviously get inspiration to pursue this field which is both challenging as well as, exciting at every level! Abhiroop Basu, his 'Afternoon with Julia''s part of the Short Film Corner. He wouldn't be coming to Cannes without the project. He'll be going to film school, this Fall. We're also helping Saurav Rai for his accomodation. Saurav Rai's from Satyajit Ray Television & Film Institute, Kolkata, his short film 'Gudh' is part of the Official Selection - Ciné Fondation section, of the festival. HOW CAN YOU GET SPONSORED? The 2016 session is now closed but stay tuned for 2017, make short films, be curious, we'll also be giving tips and advice...don't stop watching movies!
