How can the strengthen everyone’s power to act?
[Français ⬇️]

At , discussions first highlighted the central role of education as a driver of empowerment. Popular education, learning through experience, collective work, and co-creation can help develop critical thinking, creativity, and the ability to take action, particularly among young people.

But embracing the values of democracy and equality is not enough to ensure genuine equality. The SSE must also examine its own practices and the power dynamics within its organizations, particularly to ensure that women and gender minorities can fully participate in decision-making and strengthen their autonomy.

This is especially important for young people: they are already engaged and full of ideas. The challenge is to give them the tools and trust they need, and above all a meaningful role in decision-making, with support that is neither paternalistic nor top-down.

These issues are at the heart of the work of the GSEF and its network, particularly through the Youth Hub, which promotes youth participation and brings young people’s proposals for the SSE to the international level, as well as through two Working Groups focused on women’s economic empowerment and decent work in urban and rural areas.

How can we build an ecological transition that is truly just and inclusive?
[Français ⬇️]

At , discussions highlighted that the ecological transition cannot be limited to technological solutions. It requires a profound shift in how we produce, consume, and manage resources, while being participatory and rooted in local communities.

Family farming, short supply chains, food democracy, circular economy… The initiatives shared in Bordeaux show how the can drive this transformation by bringing together producers, consumers, citizens, local governments, and grassroots organizations.

But a just transition also means recognizing environmental inequalities and differing levels of responsibility for climate change. There is no one-size-fits-all solution: approaches must be grounded in local realities and strengthen cooperation across territories, from the local to the international level.

How can we finance the transition and build a stronger, more sustainable ?
[Français ⬇️]

At , discussions highlighted the need to rethink how the SSE is financed, with approaches that better reflect its realities and values.

Traditional financing tools are often too rigid to meet the needs of SSE organizations. A diverse mix of complementary funding sources can help address this challenge. But above all, stronger cooperation is needed across the entire financing and support ecosystem, bringing together different tools, expertise, and funding cycles.

This is a key priority for the GSEF and its network: developing financing solutions that meet the specific needs of the SSE and strengthening the cooperation needed for it to grow and thrive at the local level.

Relive Plenary Session #14 of the GSEF’s 7th Global Forum.

This plenary provided a valuable space to examine how the SSE contributes to peace by building inclusive, resilient and long-term economic systems. By strengthening social cohesion, expanding access to economic participation and promoting democratic governance, it helps prevent conflict and can play a decisive role in post-conflict reconstruction and recovery.

Building on these discussions, GSEF is launching a dedicated Working Group to translate these reflections into concrete cooperation and to consolidate the role of the SSE as a pillar of sustainable peace.
