OPEN STUDIO | Visual artist Josune Urrutia Asua, 2025-2026 Senior fellow at Iméra, is hosting an open studio to share the research and creative process developed during her residency this year.

This will be an opportunity to explore her workspace, engage with her practice and discover “Notes for a Visual Essay on Drawing”, an evolving collection of notes, drawings, fragments and reflections developed throughout these months of research and creation. This project approaches drawing as a tool for research, knowledge production and mediation.

🇫🇷 L’artiste visuelle Josune Urrutia Asua, Senior fellow 2025-2026 à l’Iméra, ouvrira les portes de son atelier pour partager son travail de recherche et son processus créatif menés au cours de cette année de résidence.

Ce sera l’occasion de découvrir son espace de travail, d’échanger autour de sa pratique et de parcourir « Notes pour un essai visuel sur le dessin », un ensemble en cours de notes, dessins, fragments et réflexions né au fil de ces mois de recherche et de création. Ce projet envisage le dessin comme un outil de recherche, de connaissance et de médiation.

OPEN CALL | Are you a scholar under 35 based outside of France and currently under contract with a university for a postdoctoral fellowship? If so, you can apply to our 2026-2027 postdoc residency call!

Spend three months of your research contract in unique work and living settings, where scientists and artists from all over the world and all disciplines significantly transform the most common frameworks for thought and action.

Le printemps est arrivé à l’Iméra🌼☀️

Ces dernières années, les arbres et les plantes du jardin de l’Iméra dépérissaient en raison du réchauffement climatique et de maladies incurables… Au printemps/été 2025, les responsables des espaces verts d’Aix Marseille Université ont planté des arbres, des arbustes et des plantes vivaces résistants à la sécheresse afin de créer une prairie fleurie pour attirer les pollinisateurs.

Un an plus t**d, les fellows, leurs familles, le personnel et les invités peuvent profiter du résultat final !

Cette revégétalisation participe à la création d’îlots de fraîcheur en ville, à la diminution de la pollution de l’air, à la lutte contre l’érosion du sol ou encore au développement de la biodiversité.

🌍 L’Iméra est fier d’avoir été invité à participer au projet ALTER-MEDITERRANEE proposé par Aix-Marseille Université dans le cadre de la Saison Méditerranée 2026.

Ce projet se veut un véritable espace d’expérimentation : co-créations arts/sciences, récits plurilingues, cartographies collaboratives, ateliers étudiants… Autant d’initiatives qui répondent aux défis climatiques, sociaux et de justice environnementale.

Après une première journée au MucemLab le 18 mai, le Pharo accueille une matinée de dialogues autour de la question « À quoi ressemble une Méditerranée racontée aujourd’hui par les sciences sociales et les arts ? »

PROJECTION 🎬| Jeff Daniel Silva, résident à l’Iméra durant l’année académique 2018-2019, a coréalisé le film MARE SAPIENS, avec Aurélie Darbouret, qui sera présenté en première mondiale au Festival International Jean Rouch le 8 mai 2026 à 11h au Musée du quai Branly dans le cadre du programme « Cap sur l’environnement ».

Seçil Dağtaş holds the 2025-2026 Région Sud - Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur/Iméra chair - Germaine Tillion: Tomorrow, the Mediterranean.

Her project investigates how destruction, displacement, and ruination across the Middle East and eastern Mediterranean give rise to new forms of memory-making and documentation. This research challenges traditional perspectives by viewing archives as dynamic, fragmented and living entities.

Karen Nourse holds the 2025-2026 Franco-American Commission/Iméra chair in Migration Studies.

Research and data librarian and full professor at Middle Tennessee State University, Karen is dedicated to breaking down hidden barriers in research by supporting open science through the curation of Open Government Data (OGD), particularly in the field of migration studies.

Her current project explores how French researchers use OGD in their teaching and research. She is also working with an Aix Marseille Université faculty colleague to make enhancements to an existing online amU resource (PUD-amU) which supports migration studies research.

Henri Njangang est titulaire de la chaire AMSE/Iméra - Un monde en crise 2025-2026.

Son projet de recherche se trouve à l’intersection du changement climatique et de l’inégalité entre les sexes, deux défis majeurs et interdépendants pour le développement inclusif en Afrique.

Il s'intéresse à la manière dont les réponses financières apportées aux crises climatiques peuvent affecter les dynamiques sociales. Son objectif : veiller à ce que les mécanismes de financement du climat, qu’ils soient destinés à l’atténuation ou à l’adaptation, prennent explicitement en compte la dynamique du genre.

Ses recherches tendent à souligner que le changement climatique peut agir comme un amplificateur des inégalités déjà existantes.
