Fr. Michael Cuddigan is a Columban priest from Ireland who has been a member of the China Mission Unit for 13 years. He celebrates Mass six times a week at the Catholic Centre in the heart of Hong Kong. Many of those that attend are migrant workers from the Philippines, the country that was his first assignment as a Columban missionary.
"On Sundays it is always interesting to see their positive response on the occasions that I use a word or phrase in their own language!" explains Fr. Michael.
"The office that I have beside the third-floor chapel is also where I welcome those who need confession, or time to talk about it what is happening in their lives, a reminder for me that the bright lights of this huge city are never enough to satisfy the deepest needs of the human heart" he explains.
The worldwide leadership of the Missionary Society of St. Columban is based in Hong Kong after the Superior General and his Council transferred the Society’s headquarters from its traditional home in Ireland to China on 1st May, 2008 to be closer to where many of our missionaries are working.
