| Today is World Menstrual Health Day and FWRM stands with every woman, girl, and person who menstruates in Fiji and across the Pacific.

This year's global theme is: "Together for a "

Menstruation is a natural, normal part of life. Yet across our region and in communities right here in Fiji, it remains shrouded in silence, shame, and stigma. Girls miss school. Women miss work. Young people navigate one of their body's most regular experiences without information, without support, and without dignity.

That is not acceptable. And it does not have to be this way.

A period-friendly world means every girl has access to safe, affordable menstrual products. It means schools have clean, private sanitation facilities. It means menstrual health is taught openly in homes, classrooms, and communities. It means health services include menstrual health as a core component of care. And it means no woman or girl is ever made to feel ashamed of her body.

At FWRM, we believe menstrual health is not simply a health issue in isolation. It is a human rights issue. It is bound up with a woman's right to education, to economic participation, to bodily autonomy, and to live with dignity. When we invest in menstrual health, we invest in gender equality.

Fiji has taken a positive step by removing tax on sanitary products. But access is about more than affordability at the shop. We call on the Fijian government, health institutions, schools, communities, employers, and families to go further. We call for dedicated budget allocation to continue the distribution of menstrual products freely in schools and rural and maritime communities where access remains out of reach. We call for menstrual health to be embedded in the national school curriculum so that every child grows up informed and unashamed. We call for investment in water and sanitation infrastructure in schools and public spaces, particularly in rural areas. We call for workplace and school policies that protect and support women and girls during menstruation. And above all, we call on every family and community to break the silence and talk openly about periods.

To every young woman and girl in Fiji: your body is not a burden. Your period is not something to hide. You deserve care, information, and support, always.

Today we raise our voices and together we must build a .

On the coastal fringes of Ba, where the river meets the sea, the black sands of Natutu, Nawaqarua and Votua have become a modern battleground. For years, heavy machinery has scooped up these dark, mineral-rich sands, leaving local communities to navigate the environmental fallout. For many villagers

| As we mark IDAHOBIT 2026, the International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia, Inters*xphobia and Transphobia, FWRM stands firmly with LGBTIQA2S+, PIDSOGIESC+, MVPFAFF+, and Vakasa, Sian, Trans and Non-binary (VST+) communities across Fiji and the Pacific, and beyond.

Anti-rights movements are becoming more organised, better funded, and more politically influential, and their agenda is broad. They target q***r and trans people, inters*x people, VST+ communities, indigenous communities, women, girls, s*x workers, people living with HIV, migrants, and anyone whose existence challenges their grip on power. The rollback of hard-won rights is deliberate and it is accelerating, from legislation that criminalises identity to rhetoric that emboldens violence in homes, communities, and institutions.

Democracy cannot be reduced to elections and institutions while entire communities are criminalised, erased, or left unprotected by the very systems that claim to represent them. Equal treatment under the law must mean equal treatment for all people, including those who have been historically excluded from that promise.

FWRM believes in a feminism that does not leave people behind. Our solidarity is with the full diversity of human lives and experiences, and our demand is simple: accountability from those in power, and justice for those who have been denied it for too long.

Who gets silenced? Who gets protected? Who gets pushed out of public life?

This is a matter of dignity, equality and diversity.

On the International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia, and Transphobia, UN Women calls for a world where LGBTIQ+ people can live freely, safely and equally.

Pacific Feminist voices are loud and clear!

| "To be a young feminist in the Pacific is to walk a delicate line. To challenge without disconnecting. To speak without being silenced. To lead even when leadership was not designed for you."

Shruti Suhani Singh of Fiji has been part of FWRM's programmes since she was 10 years old. Yesterday at Voices of the Ocean, she reminded us that advocacy is not something you do alongside your life, it is part of who you are.
