The Minister for Education, Honourable Aseri Radrodro, in collaboration with the National Disaster Risk Management Office (NDRMO) and relevant divisional authorities, wishes to inform all parents, guardians, and stakeholders that schools in the Western Division will remain closed due to continuous heavy rainfall, which has resulted in flooding in many areas across the division, including low-lying and flood-prone communities, unsafe road access, and rising river levels.

For the Eastern, Northern, and Central Divisions, schools will remain open tomorrow, Tuesday 03rd March 2026. However, parents and guardians are advised that the final decision on whether to send their children to school rests at their discretion, particularly for those living in flood-prone or affected areas where access roads, crossings, or transport routes may still be unsafe. Parents and guardians are also reminded to ensure children do not attempt to cross flooded roads, creeks, or rivers, to avoid unnecessary travel in affected areas, to closely supervise children, and to continue monitoring official weather updates and advisories.

Heads of Schools are advised to remain in close communication with their Management Committees and District Education Offices and to assess school grounds and facilities before resuming normal operations.

The safety and welfare of students, teachers, and families remain our highest priority. The Ministry will continue to monitor the situation closely and provide further updates as necessary.

In line with the Fiji Police Forceโ€™s intent to restore public trust and confidence in policing, a twenty four hour dedicated call center has been established at the Fiji Police Headquarters.

Members of the public can share information or report crime by calling the Toll Free number 1681 or email at [email protected].

The Commissioner of Police Rusiate Tudravu said the decision to set up a dedicated call centre, is for members of the public to report any issue relating to police service delivery, the sharing of tips or the reporting of crimes.

Commissioner Tudravu said, โ€œI urge members of the public to utilize the call centre, and direct all issues regarding police service/police officer, reports of crime or the sharing of information. The information will then be redirected to the respective Directors and Divisional Commanders for immediate action, with feedbacks to be provided as soon as practicable.โ€

The Commissioner said the call centre will also enable the consolidation of information through an official channel, whereby immediate action can be directed by the shift supervisor, leading to improved response times and feedbacks, which have often been the subject of complaints against the organisation.

He is pleading with members of the public to utilise the new platform, as reports will be investigated and looked into when lodged through official reporting channels.

Members of the public can refer matters by calling the Toll Free number 1681 or email at [email protected].
