Day Two of the training, held yesterday, attracted 42 enthusiastic participants keen to learn more about mushroom farming.

Ms. Seruwaia Kabukabu, President of the Fiji Mushroom Association, led the training session. Participants were introduced to the fundamentals of mushroom cultivation, followed by a live planting demonstration and an engaging cooking demonstration.

For many participants, it was their first time tasting mushrooms. They were pleasantly surprised and impressed by both the cooking style and the delicious taste.

We were also fortunate to welcome several vocational agriculture students from Ratu Simione Matanitabua College. The students will begin cultivating their own mushrooms, providing them with practical agricultural skills and the potential for an income-generating opportunity.

By investing in our young people and exposing them to new agricultural ventures, we continue to empower them with opportunities for growth, learning, and entrepreneurship. Let us encourage our youth to explore the many possibilities that agriculture has to offer.

The Foundation for the Education of Needy Children in Fiji has kick-started its two-day Capacity Building Training, "Creating Sustainability Through Mushroom Farming with Financial Literacy," at Namelimeli Village, Navua, from 9–10 June.

Yesterday’s Financial Literacy session was led by BSP’s Senior Manager Microfinance, Mr. Isikeli Taoi, who focuses on inspiring behaviour change in his trainings. He emphasized the importance of saving and identifying time wasters, ending his session with the powerful reminder: “The difference between rich and poor is a choice.”

This two-day training has been made possible through the partnership of BSP Financial Group Limited, the Fiji Mushroom Association, and the Juncao Technology Demonstration Center.

The Foundation for the Education of Needy Children welcomed over 120 participants to its Northern Walkathon in Labasa on Saturday (May 30). This was the foundation's 2nd walkathon to be held in the North.

The 5km walkathon aimed not only to raise funds for our initiatives but also to foster community spirit and awareness of the challenges faced by our vulnerable children.

The Foundation extends its sincere appreciation to the Tui Labasa and the Senior Education Officer Northern. We give special thanks for the crucial support provided by several organisations, including National Fire Authority, the Fiji Police Force, the Ministry of Rural & Maritime Development and the Ministry of Education. Their assistance was integral to the smooth ex*****on of the event.

The Foundation is also immensely grateful for the support from Fiji Water and Janty Kanvan Pte Limited for providing essential supplies for the walkathon.

A heartfelt "Vinaka Vaka Levu" goes out to FENC Fiji's Labasa Volunteer committee, students, school representatives, individuals, families, and friends for their unwavering commitment and support towards the success of this meaningful event.

This World No To***co Day, FENC Fiji is joining the World Health Organization to say: No more tricks, no more traps.

The 2026 theme, “Unmasking the Appeal,” exposes how the to***co and ni****ne industry uses bright colours, sweet flavours, and deceptive marketing to target the next generation.

At FENC Fiji, our mission is to provide children with the education and leadership skills they need to make healthy, empowered choices. Ni****ne addiction doesn’t just impact health; it drains family resources and hinders a child’s ability to thrive in school and beyond.

Together, we can protect our families:
-Educate: We work with tutors and mentors to teach children about the dangers of to***co use.
-Advocate: We support environments that are to***co and ni****ne-free for all Fijian families.
-Empower: By keeping children in school, we give them the tools to build a future free from addiction.

This May 31, let’s choose health over industry profit.

🔔The Foundation for the Education of Needy Children is expanding its learning centres to better serve vulnerable and remote communities across Fiji.

Last week, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the Foundation and a representative from Nuku Village in Serua at the Serua Provincial Council office.

This partnership is a bridge towards establishing a learning centre in Nuku Village to better equip children with additional after-school learning resources aimed at improving literacy, numeracy and digital skills.

An induction training on Child Protection and Child Safeguarding Policy with professional development was also carried out for Nuku, Serua and Naqara, Naitasiri Learning Centres this week.

The Foundation is committed to fostering a supportive and inclusive learning environment, ensuring that every child has the opportunity to thrive and reach their full potential.
