Today, on IDAHOBIT the International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia, Interphobia, and Transphobia we stand in solidarity with LGBTQIA+ communities in Fiji and around the world. Observed every year on May 17, this day marks the historic moment in 1990 when the World Health Organization removed homosexuality from its list of mental disorders a powerful step toward dignity, equality, and human rights for all.

IDAHOBIT is more than a day of awareness. It is a reminder to celebrate the beauty of sexual and gender diversity, while recognising the discrimination, violence, and barriers many LGBTQIA+ people still face every day. Today, we honour resilience, amplify visibility, and continue the call for safer, more inclusive communities where everyone can live freely and authentically.
Raise your flag. Start conversations. Stand up against discrimination.
Together, we create a future built on respect, equality, and pride. ๐Ÿ’œ

๐ŸŒˆ Rainbow Pride Foundation at the Mental Health Awareness & Wellbeing Program | University of Fiji โ€“ Saweni Campus

On Saturday, 9th May 2026, Rainbow Pride Foundation (RPF) was honoured to be invited by Mending Minds Foundation to participate in the Mental Health Awareness & Wellbeing Program held at the University of Fiji โ€“ Saweni Campus, Lautoka, from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM.

Our HIV Community-led Prevention Response Coordinator โ€“ Western Division, Rita, served as a Guest Speaker and Panelist, delivering a powerful talk on HIV and its impact on Mental Health โ€” shedding light on the deeply important connection between HIV diagnosis and mental wellbeing, particularly among People Living with HIV and Key Populations in our communities.

Rita advocated strongly for mental health awareness among families, communities, human rights defenders, People Living with HIV, and Key Populations โ€” reinforcing RPF's commitment to a holistic, inclusive, and compassionate approach to health and wellbeing for all.

We are grateful to the stakeholders who responded to our outreach and attended at short notice โ€” your presence enriched the dialogue and strengthened the spirit of collaboration.

A huge thank you to our partners on the day:

๐Ÿ“HIV Awareness at St Lukeโ€™s Anglican Church, Easter Camp for Youthโ€“ Suva

Today, Asaeli Sinusetaki, had the privilege of joining the Anglican Church Easter Camp at Hutson Street, Suva, upon invitation from Father Winston Tarere, to speak on HIV awareness and community-led prevention in Fiji.

Representing a collective of NGOs leading community-led HIV prevention efforts, Asaeli shared key insights on how we are responding to HIV in Fiji โ€” grounded in outreach, education, and strong community partnerships.

๐Ÿ’ฌ The session sparked powerful engagement from the youth, with important questions raised such as:
โ€ข Can mothers living with HIV safely breastfeed while on treatment?
โ€ข How can we better support people living with HIV (PLHIV)?
โ€ข What role can the church play in walking alongside PLHIV?

๐Ÿ™ What stood out most was the openness and curiosity of the young people โ€” many of whom are navigating these conversations for the first time.

Church leaders and camp facilitators shared positive feedback, noting that the session helped young people better understand the realities, risks, and responsibilities around HIV, especially in contexts where these conversations are often not openly discussed at home or within faith spaces.

๐ŸŒ With youth from other Pacific Islands present, this dialogue goes beyond borders. As a regional hub, what happens in Fiji has wider implications โ€” making awareness, prevention, and compassionate support even more critical.

โค๏ธ We are encouraged by the churchโ€™s commitment to creating safe spaces for learning, reflection, and action โ€” including sharing real-life experiences and strengthening support systems for those living with HIV.

Together, we continue to break the silence, challenge stigma, and empower our young people to make informed decisions.

Free Nadi from Drugs Campaign

A powerful step forward as the Turaga na Tui Nawaka declares a drug-free future for our youth and generations to come. This is more than a campaign itโ€™s a united movement, led by community, driven by purpose, and grounded in saying NO to drugs.

From leaders of the Vanua to youth groups, partners, and sponsors this is what collective action looks like. Together, we are building safer spaces and stronger futures for Nadi, the Western Division, and Fiji.

Deep appreciation to our Peer Outreach Workers your dedication is creating real change. To the Western Coordinator (Seniyasi Rita ) and Health Equity Matters your leadership plus support continue to uplift this movement.
